Well-rounded answers from an older-schooler.
Personally, I'll take Madness over Mania, but that's just me. I'm biased because Savage worked the territory down here and he was on my TV every Saturday morning for a few years when I was just getting into wrestling -- his feud with Dutch Mantell kept building for like 18 months or more before the payoff.
Next round:
1) I get your points about WWF, but how can you ignore:
a) The absolute cardboard cutout characters like Sgt. Slaughter, Honky Tonk, Beefcake, Hacksaw, Big Boss Man, Brooklyn Brawler and Iron Shiek -- a roster that looked like the Village People?
b) Or blithering idiots like Ultimate Warrior and Adrian Adonis, Red Rooster, Kamala (and, at times, Hogan -- at least in his early WM days), to name a few (and many more who didn't have lasting impressions)?
c) Or the immasculization of the Road Warriors, Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes, Lanny Poffo and many other greats?
2) In truth, wasn't most of the 1980s WW(W)F mostly garbage, and wasn't it saved by WCW, which made McMahon take a look at the product and bring in an element of realism instead of cartoon characters?
3) Without the Attitude Era, do you think WWE would be in business today?
i think slaughter, sheik and big boss man had some great moments.
hogan is, always was, and forever will be a blithering idiot.
WWF was about 60-70% garbage back those days. the attitude era was almost all great entertainment. nowadays WWE is about 30% garbage(Raw)

Good answer, Al, pinch hitting for Oldschoolwrestlingfan, who seems to have tripped over his walker on the way to replying.

What up, P-Rib? I haven't seen Jorl here in a while but I would LOVE to have him as a guest in the STP Lounge (hint, hint if you're lurking, Joel).

Short of that, P-Rib would be a great guest. Consider yourself invited if you are the next guest. Our edition can cover Topix WWE past and present, WWE and, most importantly, Cornfield 51 (I have an update on the Florida 'area 51' version I visit sometimes).

So let me know if you're in.

I'm not sure what a "chick flight" is, but I hope it doesn't mean you were beating up on women (g).

Anyway, if you could get back to the topix and answer the last round of questions it would be appreciated before this spamming noob who is ...

I answered them, unless I'm missing something....village people, forgettable characters, WCW's influence on the change from the 90's cartoon style to a more in your face style...what didn't i cover?

sorry been busy.
Sure the 1980's early 90's had forgettable characters, but let's look at some of the forgettables of today
1)Great Khali-has had big titles, top feuds, main events-but in ten years nobody will care about him (hell mostly nobody cares about him now)
2)The Miz-I like him now...but I liked the Godfather too...won't be memorable
3)Sim Snuka-had a lot of potential didn't amount to anything
The point is with every era there will be the legends and the forgettables, can't hold WWE responsible for that (well 100% anyway)
Some of the gimmicks were ridiculous (IE the village people as you called them) but the gimmicks that were ridiculous can be compared to the of the spirit squad, and the Invincible John Cena...how many times can Jerry Lawler act as if an attitude adjustment is as awe inspiring as it was the first time
The Road Warrior were great, even amazing...and WWE screwed up that, not their first or last...I don't agree with everything they do but WCW did it too...I mean do you remember guys like Glacier who had potential and ruined him with storylines like when his mask got stolen, or when the glittery stormtrooper known as Typhoon (might have the guys mixed) came. It happens the companies take chances with changes.
Yes WCW was responsible for a lot of the change in WWF in the mid 90's, but I also think it would have happened anyway. When guys like HHH, HBK, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, guys that were already or being established well before WCW became an actual threat were performing without insane gimmicks. Like I said, WCW sped up the process, but I truly think it was well on it's way.
Sorry, missed that somehow. My holiday weekend computer time has been fleeting (but grilled some great steaks, so it was far from a total loss).

Last round of questions, back to the topic of Topix:

1) Three best and three worst posters on this forum in the past year, in your opinion.

2) Most annoying noob.

3) What is it about the STP Lounge that makes wannbes ...

SO JEALOUS????

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Virgo

You're in a very sensitive frame of mind today and are acutely aware of what other people are going through. So if someone is having a bad time, you'll want to do what you can to help. However, it's important to accept that you may not be able to do a single thing. If you persist in trying to help, it will be because you're uncomfortable with the situation and want to feel better.
