I mean many like PWI don't consider it a world title WWE doesn't refer to it a world title they call it the ecw title instead of the ecw world title.

because WWE treat ECW as a second rate brand. it should be labeled: the place of exciting new superstars, but instead its the place of unknowns and has-beens.

ECW is the developmental territory for TV.

Everyone that doesnt get a decent reaction from the crowd goes there to work on it. They had to give it A title, just not one taken seriously.

It's a steppingstone title, basically.

The thing people need to get over is that ECW may have the name of a great, original promotion from years ago but it can never be that again -- nor could it have ever been under the WWE banner, nor could it have stayed alive as it was.

The things they did on ECW were for late-nite, almost community-access cable outlets. They were, indeed, extreme -- from the brutality to the attitude. Because of that, they couldn't have the necessary TV platform or PPV success to survive. It was basically rated-R wrestling, which is great but can't be converted into the mass media market for what should be obvious reasons.

More importantly, WWE couldn't keep capture in a bottle what the original ECW was. ECW in its original conception was all about the fans -- particularly a cult-like following of Philly (and sometimes NY) hard-core fans, most of whom wouldn't be welcome outside their own homes. It had its own arena. Most of the people who went to shows were into ECW and ONLY ECW.

WWE couldn't keep it in a 1,000-seat bingo hall in downtown Philly and expect it to thrive. And WWE couldn't take it across the land from Topeka to Atlanta to Seattle to Texas and expect fans in all those cities to 'get it' and flock out to the shows like the local cult members did.

In short, ECW didn't translate into a nationwide product either on prime-time cable TV (where it had to attract advertisers) or live.

So it's about time people got over that and accept it for what it is -- the Triple-A minor league feeder system for the WWE. Either new talent coming up or older talent in need of a rebuilding job is what ECW is all about, and it is still perhaps the best pure wrestling WWE has to offer on a weekly basis.

Well if I am not mistaken you took what I said and made it seven paragraphs long.

I like ECW how it is, and I dont think that they could change it really. People didnt complain when Sunday Night Heat, or Velocity didnt have a world title did they? They are the same thing.

I was thinking about this the other week, and I thought to myself...TNA ratings often fall just short of ECW ratings. Now, you would consider the TNA World Championship to have more respectability, wouldn't you?

Does make you think of things in another light.

And another thing...what would you prefer...a brand with young superstars...or one with old, old men looking for a final glimpse of stardom in their 40's, or in some cases..50's...(psst...Nash, I think you need a walking stick mate)
