I believe that Mr. Beal did not go up the chain of command. All he had to do was call headquarters and they would have been right on it. I worked for Wackenhut for several years at Harley-Davidson and know that when you reported to your Supervisor or next in command. Up to and including calling Harrisburg, They got right on the problem. Which included firing any officer for sleeping on the job and neglecting their duties.

The stated position of Wackenhut supervisors to Beal was for this junior fellow to "go along to get along" and stop whining. Even when the NRC made a half-hearted effort to detect the sleeping he reported, they couldn't figure out how. When the relevant chain of command is either bent on covering up or incompetent, blowing the whistle is fully justified. Beal's action resulted in exposing a situation that needed correction.

Wackenhut offered a SAFE TO SAY program that if Mr Beal would have used, his name would not have been released to other employee's, Exelon or the NRC.His allegation would have then been investigated anonymously. He chose to take the advise of a friend who's mission was revenge. Mr Jasinski sent a signed letter dated Nov 25th to corporate employee's of both Wackenhut and Exelon, its content was of him admitting his anger and how it was controlling him and his actions. Wackenhut was only a contracted company, and anyone who knows how this works, understands that Wackenhut was nothing more than a company that was hired to enforce Exelon's policies and procedures. Before Mr Beals tape aired on television, Exelon and the NRC were notified and conducted an investigation. Wackenhut was requested by Exelon to stay out of the investigation. They found Mr Beals allegations NON CREDIBLE!!!!!!!! WE ALL KNOW THAT WAS WRONG. Wackenhut's contract was terminated, but it was the NRC and Exelon who missed the truth. Exelon employees who handled the situation and investigation have kept their jobs and some promoted, while others who would have handled this properly have been demoted or denied the opportunity to apply for employment. Wackenhut had presented to Exelon many times of the overworked guards, long hours and the effects it was having, and the poor conditions in the ready room. Supervisors overworked to the point of HAVING to take work home with them, due to lack of time to complete it on site. Alternatives were offered, but denied. My fear is that Exelon and the NRC have walked away from this gross negligence with no consequences to their poor and incompetent handling of the serious situation. Conditions continue to deteriorate, while Exelon and the NRC present to the public how they are improving. Employees are more fearful now than ever before to speak up.

Both these men were rewarded for not following company procedures !!!!!!!! If procedures were followed they still would not of had jobs, and they would have recieved settlements !!!! Seems to me they were rewarded for not following the same policies others must follow

It seems to me Mr. Beal made a video recording on private property without the consent of those guards, was there also audio? Did he also video tape any safe guard information in the room with the guards. Looks to me as if the guards on the tape even though they appear to be sleeping have a good civil case against Mr. Beal. Even though Mr. Beal thought he was doing the right thing he did it violating the rights of those guards. I would hope that Exelon does not allow recording of vital areas of a nuclear power plant to be made public.

Mr. Spangler, I take offense to your comments of supervisors being bent on covering up or incompetent, seeing as though I am one of those supervisor. Only thing is, you know what the media has released, what the NRC and Exelon have chosen to tell you, and a video that was chopped to pieces potentially by Mr. Beal himself as well as the station who aired it to make the maximum impact when they exposed it. That being said, you know little to nothing about how nuclear security operates or what actually happened during the course of the months Beal was an employee. Nor do you know what was said to NRC investigators by the supervisors or other armed guards during our sworn testimonies. Therefore, before you assume that you know something, I'd suggest you go get a job at a nuke plant in security (they pay well, you may like it) and find out exactly what is involved and then come back on here and post another 50 comments about how much it sucks to be away from your family, how hard it is to stay 100% alert when you've been up for close to 15 hours and you still have 2 to go before you are relieved, not to metion that you've worked 3 straight shifts and you have one full day off before you swing to the opposite shift for 3 more. With all due respect, you know absolutely nothing, and while I respect your right to express your opinions and views on the matter, I think that you are truly proving yourself to be very bored and have very little comprehension of how things work for those of us who don't have nice, tidy 9-5 Mon-Fri. jobs. Do your research, and maybe you should go back, read some of these postings over the course of the last few months made by those of us who do the job, do some more research, and then make an EDUCATED response to these articles. One more question, do you post your responses to these articles at home or at work? If it's at work, I wonder how your boss would feel about you using work property for personal reasons, especially while you are on the clock!!
