the article reads like they are asking for help finding a place

I'd rather see Trader Joes

but they can check out Kapolei Commons --- the place is buzzing, it is close to guaranteed influx of malahini, and there are lots of spots available

They should look at the old Comp. USA buildings on Ala Moana Blvd. and in Pearl City

how about the old CompUSA building?

I have no idea if it would be a good location for whole foods but it is near the ward center and in a major location.

That site -Ala Moana - has been bought by CVS.

What about the unoccupied Circuit City site? Then again they'd be in competition right next door to Down to Earth.

Was under the impression that the Ala Moana site was leased to Safeway by KSBE.

And surely you know that Long's is owned by CVS. Actually, I would prefer a Target store there.

Boy, the Keep It Kailua folks must be eliminating whole purple plums knowing that Whole Foods is coming to town. Hey, maybe Target could move into the Don Quijote spot and Best Buy or Costco into the bowling alley. Just kidding about the last - that space is way too small.

"the skeleton of the store were erected..." Of course, don't forget the skeletons found in the site that also slowed up construction.

Restaurant Row might have space to accommodate Whole Foods. The CompUSA site would be perfect. I wonder if Walgreen's deal with the mall on Nuuanu is a done deal... where the Hungry Lion and Radio Shack are located... There's a Star Market at Kam Shopping Center, isn't there? Is that enough space for Whole Foods? didn't they take up the Kahala Mall Star location?

Restaurant Row would be a great idea, but there are few residences there to have an initial base of customers. The CompUSA idea would've been great, if Soviet Safeway didn't buy the property.

Hawaii Kai already has 2 markets plus a Costco and there is no more land there. Aina Haina is having its Foodland remodeled into a Foodland-owned gourmet market Fresh Farms.

My only guess is that Whole Foods will go searching for a large block of buildings that it can do minimal construction on, since building their own buildings in Hawaii seems to be the holdup

Now if only the Hawaiians had accurate documentation of where they buried their dead, the Ward problem would've been avoided...

Can anyone here ascertain that the CompUSA site has been purchased/leased by Safeway? I agree with other posters here... that site would be perfect for WF - size, ample parking and location. It's actually an improvement from the original Ward location because of ingress/egress issues (read TRAFFIC) and parking (structure vs open).

Real property records show the Fee Owner for 604 Ala Moana Blvd. (The CompUSA site) held by Bishop Estate and Champion Fitness Centers is listed as a Lessee. So I guess KSBE still could develop the property...I think the Fitness Center was an idea to open the place as a 24 Hour Fitness.

Hope they keep 'it' out of Kailua. One thing Kailua doesn't need is another grocery store, ffs.

President Barack Obama on Thursday said he'd heard many "exciting ideas and proposals" from participants at a White House sponsored jobs forum and said he hoped some could be put into action quickly.

AP - President Barack Obama, accompanied by Vice President Joe Biden, speaks at the opening of his jobs summit, officially ...

"This has been a tough year, with a lot of uncertainty," Obama said as he wrapped up a half-day brainstorming session with some of the nation's top CEOs, small business and union leaders and economists.

He spoke the day before the Labor Department was to report unemployment figures for November. In October, the rate climbed to 10.2 percent -- the highest since the early 1980s -- and forecasters expected the November figure to be around the same level as October's, or worse.
