Chinese Drywall has been confirmed in many homes in the Banyan Isles subdivision of Heron Bay. WCI imported 30,000 boards in 2005 and warehoused them and used them in 2005 and 2006 in Parkland Golf & CC mostly, but also in The Glenn, Banyan Isles, Cypress Pointe, and Sable Pointe. There may be others. WCI just is not sure. WCI has been aware of the problem for quite while and even tried to fix it by using paint blockers but that failed. They assumed the boards would stop degassing in a few months but they are still degassing after 2+ years. You need to check your a/c coils and copper ground wires to your switches. Also, check copper tips of coaxial tv cables. If they are black, you probably have Chinese Drywall.

I was looking to buy a condo @ Oceanside in Pompano Beach. Does anyone know if the drywall was used there? Somehow I wouldn't trust a test done by WCI if I'm looking to buy.

I was over there a few weeks ago. I thought the same thing. I would use my own outside tester, especially if you are planning to buy in there! You want to get it inspected anyway! never skimp on an inspection!

The defective Chinese drywall debacle has been making news for months now, with homeowners plagued by sulfur fumes that smell like “rotten eggs” and cause air conditioning coils to corrode. Residents complain of sinus and respiratory ailments, eye and skin irritation, persistent runny or bloody noses, headaches, and asthma. Some situations were so severe that residents had to vacate their homes. In some cases, victims have been harassed by builders into signing unfair, one-side remediation agreements. The issues surrounding defective Chinese drywall are confusing and worrisome. Here is a good blog that has been providing emerging and valuable information on the problems: www.chinese-drywall-answers.com

We're renting a townhouse in Cyproess Pointe, Heron bay. We found molds on some of my child's equipment and when we checked the bedroom furnitures, it was full of molds. The owner inspected the house, found that the AC was not cooling properly and it was fixed. I doubt that the cause of the molds were the AC. We owned a house in South Florida and we never experienced any molds, even if the AC was set higher when we are not in the house. Were there chinese dry wall in Cypress Pointe?
