I have a mortgage w. WaMu and i've been making payments for over 1year via mail, and one month they claimed the payment wasn't received and they reported it to my credit report. I have tried several times to get it removed because it wasn't my fault, the mail man lost the mail envelope, and they just refused. I have worked hard for many years to built my credit and this is really hurting my credit score. I was also planning on taking out a home equity loan and because of that mark it is costing me hundrets more per month.
I am not the only person which they have done this to, several other people i know from work have had similar experiences. I would pay over the phone to make sure the mail isn't lost but they charge a fee even for automatic payments. I do not know of any other bank which would do this to their customers, especially when all my other payments for over 1 year have been on time.
They also have the rudest customer service reps in the business. It is a headache to even get a question answered or to have anything done. I would not recomend this bank to anyone.

That can happen at any bank..

You should have got a Wamu checking account and signed up wor auto-pay.

Not only would that save you a quarter percent on your interest but all payments would be automatic and you wouldn't have to worry about the mail man losing your payment.

Besides, you can write your credit bureus and dispute the entry which would buy you 90 days to provide them with a removal request from your bank.

If you insist on relying upon the united states postal service to keep your credit clean, you should spend another dollar to send the letter payment certified in which case you would have proof of receipt and a certified reciept from the post office which would make it a piece of cake to get the entry removed from your report.

Lets see...that mnakes it two things YOU could have done to prevent this from happening and none that wamu could have done. Yeah post offices fault but that makes a score of:

Wamu: 2 points
Post Office: 1 point
You: 0 points

I would also be willing to bet that this is not the first time you were "late" or delinquent with an account.

Shape up soldier!!

This company is a joke. They deducted my loan payment twice on the same day and it took three weeks to get the money back. In fact I'm still waiting..

I agree that I hate WaMU. They screwed up my closing by leaving out a $6,000 property tax assessment. They never factored it into my mortgage payments. It took me over a year to find this $6,000 error and it was WaMUs fault. WaMU then sold my mortgage to Dovenmuehle and now I have an escrow shortage with Dovenmuehele and they're threatening foreclosure. I hope WaMU burns to the ground.

You people sound like sore losers :) Seriously, every bank is mortgage company is guilty of everything your complaining about. You think wamu is the only company that has done this? They all do it, and usually not on purpose! Life isn't fair, cmon now? Only person that sounds screwed bad is Sheri, but Sheri even your at fault. Sorry, you would have been notified by the title company to set up your tax/ins if the mortgage company themselves had not added it to your mortgage payment. It just doesn't get passed by, I know this because I am a loan officer. So even your story could have been avoided, you probably just didn't want to pay it and since you never got reminded again you forgot yourself. Anyhow, all banks are guilty of these errors. L8r and hope you all find what you think to be a "Better bank"

While it does sound like some sore spots got hit it is true that WAMU can sure leave a few hefty bruises. We know we are not perfect but sometimes bad things DO happen to good people. I understand that a big corporation needs to make money too. But when did we lose ccompassion in this world?

We had 1 payment left on a payment arrangement we had made to get caught up after my husband's broken leg, no paycheck month.(When you live paycheck to paycheck in the real world that is hard to catch up from). Then on Nov 25th my 47 year old husband had a stroke!! Again no paychecks. I get SSI Disability that got us fed till he was back to work but nothing else got paid.

I called WAMU who informed me our mortgage had been sold to Wells Fargo. I called Wells Fargo. The lady there said don't send the payment yet anyways as they didn't have the files in there office yet. She said she would call me back when they came in.

I called WFB back in 2 weeks. Still no files but they can see that we were in an active payment arrangement with Wamu at the time of tranfer. They didn't know the amount or where to send that payment yet. Lady said they would call me back to set up a new arrangement as soon as the file came in to the office.

I called every 2 weeks for 2 months. One night in February I got a call from a bill collector from WFB. She put me on hold forever then came back and said she couldn't work with me because the file shows we are now in active foreclosure!!

Talk about surprised. Stunned would be better. I have still received no official notice that my house is in foreclosure. Today is the sherriff's sale. Tonight we file Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I have lost my home.

So was it WAMU"S fault? WFB's fault? My husband's fault for getting a broken leg and a stroke all in the same year? My fault for breaking my back and not being able to work anymore? Or is it because we have become so skeptical about people that we no longer believe truly bad things can happen through no fault of their own.

BLAH BLAH BLAH...try to have a little compassion. Hopefully you never have to start over from scratch in middle age. Hopefully you are healthy and have good genetics. Hopefully you can save for that rainy day. Hopefully you can save for that rainy year in case it is a torrent. I sure hope you can.

In the meantime send out good vibes on a househunt!

I walk into a branch I never get greeted. The bank tellers stare at me clueless and say nothing. They are a bunch of idiots. I hate washington mutual and I hate that bank with a damn passion. I regret paying them interest on my mortgage the last 4 years . Thank God I sold my house. WAMU customer service is very poor and not once in 5 years have I been thanked for doing any sort of transaction. RUDE RACIST ignorant bank tellers.

You are definitely right about WAMU. I found your web site looking for Washington Mutual COMPLAINTS. I FOUND OUT NERY MANY PEOPLE ARE UNHAPPY WITH THEM.
Our Family is in the process of refinancing our Home Mortgage. Washington Mutual has given our broker incorrect information and documented that in the past, we had a foreclosure. We called Washington Mutual and it took us 3 days to get a return call even with us contacting them on a daily basis. The person we talked to with a conference call with our Broker told us that they are in the process of sending us a correction letter. This was 2 month ago. When we finally received one, it was not the document our broker specifically ask for. We still have not receive a letter for us to close on a deadline date. Our Broker also has indicated that they have been calling them 2 to 3 times a day and all they get is the same answer. We are still waiting for the document that we need to be able to close the loan. I called today and the WM Rep pretty much read the documentation on the computer screen and told us to contact someone else. We have been transfered many times with a minimum of 20 to 45 minute wait. Our Broker waited for almost an hour to get a customer service rep. Still no documentation. I don't know what to do. I have never dealth with a Company with the worse customer service as Washington Mutual. They suck! They do not care anout the customer. When this is done and over with, I will never deal with a incompetent piece of shit WM again.

During the last 5 years the bankruptcy court and I have paid WAMU over $19,000. They have not credited me for any of that money – it just has disappeared. Five years ago I was $7,438 behind in payments (see enclosed payment coupon dated 2/1/01). I had financial problems that year, and I filed BK that month. Now, WAMU states I am $8,985.81 -$1,500 more than prior to both the BK attorney and I making payments to them in the amount of over $19,000!

The money paid to them has not been applied to the principal either. The Home Loan statement enclosed has my balance as of 1/07 as $115,034.84. It also has the 1/04 statement showing I owed $120,515.68. That’s a difference of only $5,480.84 for 3 full years. Their attached printout, dated 3/5/07, should that of the $1,245.22 regular payment that $895.52 of that goes to the principle. That is at least $10,740/yr.($10,740 x 3 years =$32,220). They only credited me for $5,480.84 – where is the balance of $26,739.16 that should have been credited to my account but wasn’t?????????? Where is the $15,716.14 the BK court paid them??????????

Plus, they refuse to credit me for 2 payments they have lost!

I have been trying to settle an estate with WAMU for close to a month. Everything is in a trust, all documents are correct and have been submitted to "legal" still can't get them to cut a check. Nine other banks have been SUPER with the same estate. Whay can't WAMU make things happen? A branch supervisor agreed with me when I told her the customer service department was horrible! The she proceeded to do nothing to faciliate the transaction! I have a call into corporate to see if they can light a match.

WAMU SUCKS!
THIER AUTO withdrawal program sucks! They are inaccurate,
They didn't pay my taxes until it was past 6 months late.
They didn't pay the homeowners insurance company... but still taking out of my escrow!
They didn't process the disability insurance paperwork.

They royally screwed up with my bank, taking out the wrong amount, not activating my auto withdrawl because they took out the wrong amount... then on top of it all, I found out 4 months later! I make 56 phone calls over a 4 day period, traveled 90 miles and all they said, is turn around (when I was within 25 minutes from thier offices, we are going to be closing early today, there isn't anything we can do for you.
They won't return my calls or the attorneys calls.
My attorney got involved the following week writing a letter and now they are suing me for non-payment, my attorney things we will have at least 3 lawsuits on them by the time it's all over!
THEY SUCK!!!

you're pmt is your responsibility
since you have the time to post comments like this from your computer, perhaps you should just use the time you're wasting on making payments online which are for free
on another note, do you expect washington mutual to have control over tha united states postal service?

I understand, WaMu is a bit dirty. My husband and I went into the bank and spoke to a Mortgage loan advisor. We have a house in our area that has been forclosed by them for three months now. The house needs a lot of work and is invested with cockroachs. No one has been there in three months. So, we ask them for info. on the house and how we can buy it.They tell us a little and inform us that they will get intouch with us on how to make an offer. One week later we hear nothing.By this time we get pre-approved for a loan on the house. So, I email and call over to WaMu. She now tells me that she can't help me. She isn't in a position to do so.That I need to contact a loan advisor. Which we already did. Now today people are at that house cleanning it up. I just found out that the lady at the bank contacted someone and told them about the house. They went out from under us and took the house.I wish I had never went into the bank and told that lady about the house. It was and is a great deal. $250,000 under market value.

I have been a WAMU customer for over 10 years. Recently, I won a case against a person who also banks at WAMU. I garnished their funds and delivered a court order to WAMU to hand over the funds. This is where the merry-go-round begins. Since January, 2007 I have been going back and forth with WAMU's Levy department. Most of the delay is that they never return phone calls when they say they would. Several times I would speak to someone there and give them the case number and depending on the person, they can either find the case or not. If not, they say they will have to get back to me, which they never do. I finally got so frustrated that I called them every day. Some of the stories they told me was: 1) they don't have records of the person I sued. 2) they sent the check to the County Clerk's office -- no check. 3) the supervisor that was handling the case left the company. 4) we don't have (lost) the court order.-- I send them another one.
The incompetence just continues. As of this writing I still have not received the money. I don't know what else to do. I suppose I will now have to re-hire my attorney just to get something that I am entitled to. This is so frustrating. Where can I write to someone at WAMU that will take my complaints seriously. I really want to bring attention to their Levy department.
BTW, WaMu has a special complaint department and yes, I talked with their Executive Services department(they are suppose to handle special complaints) and they are no help. Since the account is not mine, they always claim privacy. Yet, I have a court order releasing the funds to me, and what is the status? They always say, "Sorry sir, we are not allowed to release any information that is outside your account". Arrrrgh. All I want is the status on processing the order.

Wamu levied my account on behalf of a collection agency. The collection agency refuses to provide me with the legal documentation that allowed them to levy me (although they indicated the court in which they filed). Of course, I can't even speak with someone about this at Wamu. I come to find that there is no judgement nor case filed. I suspect they had no right to levy me considering I have no outstanding debts, no court file, and I've never delt with the who they claim to be the original creditor. I've tried to get through to Wamu claiming that I've been the victim of identity theft (which is now a viable option) and they just transferred me to an outside number of the colelction agency.

I have been banking with WAMU since I was 8 years old and I am now 23. It took me almost 4 months to get a new debit card sent to me and they never sent me the pin number. First off I got in yelling matches with "managers" over the phone when they were telling me that my address must be wrong when I clearly get a bank statement every month. At one point when I didn't have my debit card yet since the number was stolen I was withdrawing money about 3 times a month from my checking and they began to charge me an excessive activity fee for every withdrawal for almost 4 months. I ended up talking to someone in corporate in Seattle and she said she would FedEx my card to me. Well I ended up having to call FedEx since WAMU never put my apartment number on the package. When I get the package I was assured there would be a pin number with the card which there was not. This began back in December of 06 and is still a problem in July of 07. I have called the numbers I was given by managers and no one returns my phone calls nor does the person ever answer the phone. I have left upwards to 15 messages with the same woman at WAMU. Today the bank has put a hold on my debit card being used under credit so I am now forced to get a pin which I have asked for on several occasions and have never received. I have thought of filing a complaint with the BBB, because I pretty much get told at every branch to leave and call customer service. At this point Im lost on what to do since I asked to get a new pin and they want to cancel my card and send me a new one with a new pin. So basically I have been brought back to step one all over again.
I WOULD SAY NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH WAMU.
