As of the past week there is a hiring freeze on MGTs nationwide. There are about 1,000 stores that have yet to fill the position of Store Team Leader. Walgreens is way behind there time table for their goal of replacing an MGT with an STL for every store. Here is the email to the District Managers/Corporate Vice Presidents

District Managers:

As communicated by your MVP, the MGT position code was frozen as of December 1, 2011. We currently have over 1,000 stores in the company that have not yet met the goal to replace one MGT with one STL in each store. Stopping MGT hiring will allow our districts to ensure that they have at least one STL per store as MGTs leave in the district.

If your district has met its STL goal and you have an MGT exit the company, please work with your MVP to determine how to provide your district with adequate management coverage without filling the vacancy with a new MGT. If a solution cannot be determined, DMs can request that a new MGT be hired through People’s Plus Hiring (PPH), but this request will need to be approved by your MVP. Please note that a similar approval process will be put in place in the Job Opportunity Program (JOP), effective December 15, 2011.

As new STLs are hired, your OPT should work with store managers to ensure that new STLs receive the proper onboarding materials and training in order to prepare them for their new role. More information regarding the hiring freeze, as well as a companywide update on how well we are working to obtain our STL goal will be communicated at the beginning of 2012.

Question... how come we can not see the signature? So who is the email coming from exactly?

the email is from "Store-Ops Mail/Corp/Walgreens" so therefore no signature.

How do they plan on filling management positions for a new store? I was honestly hoping to apply for said position... But even our STL tried to apply for it and our DM gave the store manager a stern warning against further applications.

I hear the front will soon have just 1 manager & 1 cashier, and on truck days there will be part time floor help.Also alot of DM's may lose their jobs.

In my store last week they promoted a guy from cashier to assistant manager. So a hiring freeze does not necessarily apply everywhere. He also does not start until December when there will again be changes company wide. They are even willing to work around his school schedule. He was told by community leader that they were not sure where he would be and therefore he would be a floater. I really can't figure this one out.

Our store still has a SIMs coordiantor and NO STL. Sounds like that's going to change?

The hiring freeze was as of Decemeber 1. THIS is a nationwide freeze. However, as stated in the email, there can be exceptions. If an area has met its STL obligatons and a DM needs an MGT it can be approved by the MVP (Market Vice President). The whole reason for the freeze is that some DMs have been "lazy" in implementing the STL program. This freeze is to force the issue.

Our STL was promoted to MGT recently too, but it was a few days BEFORE December 1st.
I wonder if he waited later for an interview, would he not be manager right now???

We also just had an STL promoted to MGT in November. Maybe word leaked out about this freeze, so DMs did their promotions before it kicked in.

Walgreens is rolling out in March for the whole STL/SFL position. I was told by my exa that I have to be available at all times for any shift changes. If not, I should quit or go somewhere else. I have kids and when I took the position, I was told by the store manager that they'll work with me on my schedule.
What is Walgreens rules/laws on it? Are they to push me in this kind of position and decision?

It's simple enough. Your SM over promised. Maybe he/she would work with you on your schedule but that's not to say that the next SM would.

B.S. once the schedule is posted they can ASK you to switch. they cannot punish you if you dont. you arent management dont feel obligated to give up your life for wags. They wouldnt do it for you.

Good luck. Our STL has always worked opens during the week and on Saturdays. Her daughter enrolled in school and doesn't get out until 430 pm. That was ok because her mom, the STL, was always off by 4ish. Just recently our mgr changed her shifts to mids without talking to her about it. She told him there was no way she could work all mids because then she wouldn't be able to pick up her daughter from school. He pretty much told her too bad so sad. Walgreens does not work around what you need them to, you work what they need you to. She's very upset and said fine she was giving her 2 weeks.
