Open availability for stl and sfl is lame!

my wife is an stl at a store and has been for a couple of years, at least since the beginning of the stl position. She makes around $11.50/hr. Got a new store mgr who has napoleon complex and is a stickler for the rules.
Anyway, she found a p/t time job she likes but it would require her to leave a half hour earlier. She asked the sm and he said that stl's have to have open availability too, which means no p/t job is possible and he won't budge.
She's up for sfl in April, so she asks the sm what the new wage will be for sfl. He looks it up and says no increase except for shift diff. bummer, why bother then. So she asks if there's a way to find out what her pay would be if she stepped down to floor or cashier person. He changes her status code or something in the computer as a test and turns out she'd make the same thing as she's been there 8 years so her payscale is high....say what?
All along she's been thinking that she'd get maybe a dollar raise for sfl. turns out there's no raise plus more headaches and nights with the pleasure of open availability wrapped around her neck.
So she has the option of sfl or floor person (no open availabilty here) for the same pay rate.
She never would have found this out if she didn't ask to get off at 2:30 every day and the the jerkoff said no.

The only benefit to stl or sfl is guaranteed hours, otherwise it's a deadend crap job, at least for her.

This is what i have been telling everyone, yet everyone is in such a damn hurry to take this useless position. That SM is an arse. The only benefit that position is for people who are new and have no years with the company. Otherwise i have no clue why people are blindly taking this position at all.

I agree with Joey! Plus, if she is considering the SFL position she won't be able to have a part time job anyway. What's with the take off at 2:30 everyday...LOL I didn't have such a cushy schedule when I was an STL. Open availability = working anytime the store is open not just during the day for everyone from cashier to SFL. I'm sure that position is going to be scheduled more in the evenings, weekends, and holidays that noone else wants to work as well. Just tell her to be very watchful ~ lots of things can happen between now and April! They could find someone to take it for less than $11.50 it happened at my old store.

There's an exa in my community store that works only nights because he has another job. Not sure how that happen or how he's still an exa
