I have been hearing about how superior Wags is to CVS since I joined this company. Wag has zero debt....we have superior staffing....we have a better model....blah blah.

CVS is financed with massive debt. They will be going out of business soon. They have a poor business model...blah blah.

The truth appears to be that CVS is a super competitor. A competitor that appears to be eating Wags lunch on almost every level. They may be a shit**y place to work, but it's not like Wags is that much better.

I find it hilarious to hear long term Wags employees and especially upper management always slamming CVS and espousing how much better Wags is on all fronts when there seems to be little or no facts or examples that prove any of this. CVS is currently seen as a superior company by most analysts and wall street in general.

I for one would find it refreshing if Wags management said " CVS is a great company...they have been making us their bit** and we need to wake up and pay attention or get some more lube." Now that would be Being Real and Bold. Afterall it is most telling that in almost all "customer surveys" people see little or no difference between a Wag or CVS store because there really isn't any.

What is your take on the topic?

I never see anyone in CVS ever come up and ask if you need help, in fact I never see anyone except the cashir? They offer a very nice looking store with carpet, nice lighting, nice clean look but it's suffers from no personality sort of like a gold fish!

It would hurt morale if you went around talking about how someone else is better. Basic human behaviour encourages acting as if you're the best, ESPECIALLY when working as a group.

I think the not hurting morale argument can be used for lower level employees. However, I think it has the opposite effect on morale when you have those who are supposed to leaders of the company espousing rhetoric that obviously is not based on facts. To assume that educated employees will blindly drink the "rhetoric Kool-aid" served without questioning it's orgin or basis is disconcerting and ultimately harmful for morale in my opinion.
