I am not an expert on this. Look at the website for your board of pharmacy and see if you can get specifics on background checks for pharmacy technicians. You can always contact the board for more details. I think you have to get registered before you can get a license but I don't remember the specific checks that are done. Also, they might vary from state to state.

State Boards will check arrest records from the fingerprints you have to give them to be licensed. If the arrest was "wiped" away, most state boards can't access the info; however, they have ways around it and can find the info. You have know state law to challenge it, and they can't refuse the license if info was obtained and used against you. Talk to your DUI attorney. Even if it was 5 years ago. Lying to a State Board is worse than getting the DUI. I owned a pharmacy once and dealt with this issue for one of my old employees. It worked out for him since the Board was not allowed access to the arrest record by law, and license was allowed because they knew they violated the law despite the lie on the application about never being arrested. That was a fun meeting since the the Board attorney realized they had no choice since the Board of Pharmacy was not on the approved list of agencies allowed to see expunged arrests. Good luck.

I work in Missouri and know of at least two people that had a DUI on their record and still got licensed. Just come clean on the arrest report, it is worse if you withhold any information.

Well you got more information from other people and it all seems reasonable. Once you get registered and start working in the pharmacy, make sure you are ready to pee in a cup any time you are at work for drug testing.

Yes, you need to be clean and strait forward with your record with the state board. An application to any state government is signed under the pains and penalty of purgery.

The state I work in will deny an application with a DUI unless if the applicant has shown an honest effort to rehabilitate themselves.

If you hid the DUI and they find out after you were licence, they will take it away and never give it back.

I had 2 DUI's and got a license with no problem after the DUI's. I think they would only deny the license if the arrest involved narcotics. This was in NY by the way.

Good to know the system works and we have drunk pharmacist working on the job... A DUI must be a license to kill...

Nice to know Walgreens doesn't care about a DUI arrest... I guess the pharmacist would have to be drunk on the job, fill the wrong medication and kill a patient for Walgreens to care! They must be willing to take that risk. I am sure it would be really easy to check local county records for an arrest. One arrest is one to many and two is a serious problem... I'd recommend everyone question who's filling your prescriptions at Walgreens. I will...Dallas/TX

Wow, that was a very insightful understanding comment. Unless you abstain completely from alcohol you have no business making this sort of statement. Having a glass of wine with dinner and driving home can result in a DUI. I know several pharmacists who've had DUIs and I would trust them with my life. I know many more pharmacists who've never had DUIs and I wouldn't trust them flipping my burgers. Think before you type.

Walgreens does care about who is providing care to their customers inside the store level, and especially in Pharmacy.

As a side question, do you have any data that shows errors that led to death were caused by one reason?

who cares if a person is a little sheetfaced at work or a little stoned...as long as they are doing their job and not harming others...stress and anger can cause more mistakes than recreational drugs can...I work with dumb, lazy, stupid and non-productive cadavers who I would be more than happy to trade for some productive, happy mooded people any day!!!!

employees failing piss test get suspended and then can be tested any time or any day when they return to work after counseling BUT wade in corporate didn't have to jump through any hoops and he was ARRESTED for being drunk and endangering others...hmmm,seems kinda unfair!!...maybe a new class action will come up for people fired for past drug/alcohol vioaltions where they were expected to do more than the corporate honchos???

Jim I'll take from your support that on more than one occasion you have either shown up for work hung over or maybe even over the legal limit...( a drink or two as you say) Next time you put your life is someone's hands don't bother to think twice as to who is providing your care.... Just call one of your drunk pharmacist buddies to help you, I'm sure you will be just fine.

Deist, why do you need a statistic to justify the reality that an error is eventually going to occur that has the potential to severely harm a patient.

Drinking or taking any kind of legal or illegal medication that alters your reaction times or decision making skills... You have no right to be behind the wheel driving or behind a counter filling prescriptions... If you feel justified, fill your own prescription, then take your driving skills to a junk yard and drive to your hearts content, if your lucky maybe you won't crash.... But if you do the world will truly be a better place without you in it!

It also depends on the level of the.DUI. Felony or not.

If you check the original question, it was about someone newly promoted to SFL asking about the "tech license" to be able to enter the pharmacy.
It only shows you passed a background check and piss test. It's not a license at all. Just a certificate that's required for someone to be in the pharmacy to help ring, get change, etc.
Original post had nothing to do with a pharmacist.
