Does any stl's have trouble getting their vacation time approved? I put in for 2 days in january for a weekend, and I sill have not heard if its approved yet. I keep asking the store manager and he keeps telling me we will have to see. but, our mgt has had the last 2 weeks off and has requested the next 2 months of weekends off and they were all approved. any suggestions of what to do if its denied? I requested sat and sun off, vacation days, and then my 2 regular days off in the week since I was told if I want the weekend off that I have to agree work 10 days straight. I told the store manager, no that aint happening, I will just work the weekends. thats probably what he wanted to hear in the first place. now he has decided this last week that the store manager himself wants to go on vacation this next week and be gone all week so that might make it where I cant go? will find out hopefull y today.

Is it your weekend off? At my store, if we want a weekend off that is not our regularly scheduled (every third) weekend off, we have to switch weekends with someone. I plan all of my vacations and such around my weekend off.

I dont get weekends off because I refuse to have to work 10 days straight after I am off for 2. no one else has to do it, so I was told if I want a weekend off the use vacation days, which I have 4 weeks of. I put in for 2 regular days off also.

Well, then sorry, I don't know what to tell you. Sounds like it's at the discretion of your store manager, which it doesn't sound like he want to give it to you. Sorry :(

Maybe if you phrased in in correct English he would understand what your asking. If you asked me the same way you write I would assume you're joking and shrug it off. Maybe learn to work on those communication skills instead of being "store superman"

store superman i am not trying to be. just trying to do my job the best i can. thank you and as for communication, he yells at you all the time and if you try to talk to him he just over talks you. I am just saying that i am not working 10 days straight when no one else in the store is scheduled that way. its not fair when you get scheduled 10 days and you have to close 4 of them and do the turn around the day after you close. I have to leave him notes because that is the only way you can have any communication with our store manager unless you like being screamed at everyday.

I assume you are an STL, you may want to look at The New SFL Position topic. At least with the information provided there you will know where your position stands which might (hopefully not) explain why your SM is putting you off using your vacation days.

Ooo! Yoda? Are you there? And I agree, call employee relations on him. Hopefully managers like that will finally get their comeuppance but I'm sure no one is holding their breath.... I worked for a real bitch at my first store and no one wanted to ever ask her anything in fear of getting yelled at or (worse in a completely make you uncomfortable way) making her cry. I feel for you. No one should have to work with or under anyone who treats people like that.

"in in" huh? Maybe instead of flaming someone you should stop and look at your own responses now shouldn't you?

I am a easy target, I dont yell or scream, I dont let them know they make me mad. I just tell him quietly that I will work every weekend, but I will not work 10 days just to be off. I calmly walk back to the sales floor and go back to work.

You sound a lot like someone I know, and until she finally listened and started to feel she deserved more than to be treated like this by anyone, she was continually walked on by those that could easily read her as such. So, if they wont give you your vacation days, get sick for your weekend of choice! You have sick days and they cannot not let you use those. Besides maybe something better will come along and you will get paid for some of those vacation days you didn't get to use, it could be a nice addition to a final paycheck. Look for something that allows you every weekend and evening off. There is something better out there if you are a hard worker.

You're missing the point, like most douchebag EXAs. Some managers respond better to people who can communicate in a professional way. Although after hearing more about this person's SM, he clearly is an example of the deadweight that needs to be cut, allowing favoritism and fear to rule the store.

I am talking about my store manager being the one who does the schedule and tells me I will work 10 days straight if i want the weekend off. My exa is nice, but dosent help any with the problem, just tells me that its his choice, deal with it. I know its not fair, but when you call human relations, they tell me they can take the complaint, if you do it with or without your name they know who called. then you have to deal with retailiation. that sucks, been there, and wont deal with it aain.

It's time to call employee relations. I wouldnt put up with that crap. You new to grow a back bone. Speak up. They can't stop you from getting your vacation unless they have a good reason. ie inventory/someone took it off before you.
