I really think that the beginning is here.... i think layoffs, positional eliminations and the such are just getting started... i mean, they can only reduce hours so much (of course, what that magic number is- no body knows). so the nxt phase would naturally be position elims, or perhaps skim higher paid employees out and replace them with less expensive employees after resetting the pay scale..........lay down ur thoughts and ideas and opinions here.. im curious
Now transfers and layoffs

Well yeah, I really see SS getting cut to next to nothing within the next five years.
There's already rumors about MGRs being cut and replaced with lower paid promoted EXAs who will get assistance from CLs who will have added responsibility.
I also wouldn't be surprised if the MGT position were to be eliminated altogether in favor of STLs. Big money saver here, and even though it wouldn't be right for customer service, obviously that isn't Wasson's focus.
I think COS will be eliminated eventually. It's hard to justify cutting RX so much if they're going to keep someone in COS to sell $700-$1500 a day of makeup. The only reason I can see them going against this is shrink reasons.
Also, there was talk last year of Photo going all digital within two years. Once it gets to that point, there will definitely not be a need for a photo person from open to close. I could see that either becoming a 10-6 position, or even something where they just have management run it.
I see the future of Walgreens as 1 [new, lesser paid] MGR, 1 EXA, 2/3 STL, Service Clerks, maybe one floor person or two a day, and maybe one photo clerk a day. Average SS budget: 390

it's not just makeup being sold. i think walgreens would be stupid to completely eliminate cosmetics personnel. having cosmetics coverage is something that the competitors do not have. i think the customers really like the fact that there is someone in cosmetics. and especially now that hours have been cut so drastically that there is never a floor person, cosmetics has become sort of a floor position as well. a lot of the time, we are the only person that customers can find to help them. i get so many people asking me questions everyday, not just about makeup. i know eventually they will get rid of cosmetics, or at the very least just have an SBA for a mid shift or something like that, but i think the complete elimination of cosmetics personnel would be foolish. why would you eliminate something that is unique to your store and your competitors do not have? i think customers would be very disappointed and frustrated to see cosmetics personnel eliminated. like i said before, we have basically become floor coverage by default, and are the only employees customers can find to help them. i can see customers becoming very irritated because they won't be able to find anyone on the floor to help them.

This is just the start of bigger things yet to come. Cos and photo are by no means safe. The current prototype store, as most know, has photo incorporated with the front register. This is a dry lab, lower quality output but less to maintain as it's just a big thermal printer. I have actually been to a store with NO photo dept at ALL and no cos counter. This was what looked to me like a 2005 or so prototype store so at one time it did have both. Photo was filled with beer and wine (which may actually gross more than photo ever did there) and they had extra tables where the cos counter should have been. So with that kind of layout how many people do you think they would have working on a sunday morning? If you guessed two, a manager and a cashier you win the prize! When we went through that store while on vacation last year I could see what was coming.

This HAS GOT TO BE the most eerie prediction of all time because it's so darn accurate. Holy crap. Is wagnomore = Kevin Walgreens or is wagnomore the reincarnation of Nostradamus??

Spot on. The only thing missed was rx cuts are happening to resemble a skeleton crew.

With store pride and the focus on customer service, how can they eliminate positions or cut hours? We all know 1/2 of customers cannot figure out how to use photo machine. We are in the digital age, but people still use 35mm. You can make alot of money in cos with the right person. Jesus Christ price changes $1.49 for boxed Nice Raisins? They are raping these customers with these high prices. Consumers are getting smarter and we are losing them.
