Ok the mgr said the pay rate of an sfl starts at 11 hr n max is 14.50. If u stay on thirds u will be coded as an sfl. If you go back to days u keep ur pay n ur position Until April 2013. You have a yr basically to get ready for the trainee position. After that yr goes by n u dont get the trainee position which sounds a lot like the exa, I'm not sure what happens. They said there will be two "assistant mgrs" per community. One at a 24 hr store n one at a CL store. They will float around those stores in the community.

Wow! So take the SFL position at a guaranteed $14 or keep your current pay, get moved to days, but no guarantee of a slot or a paycheck..hmmm

In-Store Leadership Structure:
Every position will undergo a transition in order to deliver the new customer experience -- including all of our district, market and corporate operations leaders.
Included in this transition will be our in-store leadership structure.
Currently, our in-store structure is set up for our "7,000 by 2010" strategy, with a large number of management trainees to push into new stores that aren't being opened, leaving them sitting in the role for years.
Over time, we will transition to a new in-store leadership structure that includes:
One community leader or store manager per store
One assistant store manager per store
One pharmacy manager per store
Two hourly assistant store manager trainees per community
Two or more shift leads per store, based on store volume
This transition will occur over three years, but we want everyone to be aware of the plan so we all can prepare accordingly.
Your Role:
This new structure will affect you directly, as the MGT position code will be phased out over the course of the next three years.
However, that does not necessarily mean that you will be losing your job.
As an MGT, you will have many opportunities to apply or transition to new roles over the next two years.
A new assistant store manager trainee or ASM-T role will launch in early 2013, and current MGTs will be eligible to apply for the role.
The new ASM-T role will be a true management training position that involves participating in a two-year program designed to prepare participants for promotion into the ASM role.
In early 2013, current EXAs will be converted to ASMs at the same time we launch the ASM-T role.
Our plans call for having one ASM per store in the new model; however, we don't currently have one EXA per store (UHHHH WE DO IN MY DISTRICT... ONE STORE EVEN HAS TWO EXAS CUZ THERE IS NO WHERE FOR THE EXTRA ONE TO GO...). This means that thousands (YEAH RIGHT) of ASM-Ts hired in April 2013 will rapidly move through the ASM-T training program to fill ASM vacancies.
While I know that it can be scary to hear that your position code is going away, there is a great deal of opportunity coming up for MGTs to be promoted within the next two years -- much more opportunity than exists in our current structure.
For now, we expect you to keep doing a great job as an MGT.
HEY HOW ABOUT THIS, SUCK MY BALLS WAG!
Q: If I become a shift lead, will I keep the same pay?
A: it is possible but unlikely. Compensation for MGTs who step back to the shift lead position will be reassessed according to the pay rate defined for the shift lead role. One's tenure with Walgreens will also be taken into consideration before compensation is finalized. More details will be available once the shift lead position opens in March 2012.
Q: When will I know if I've been selected to the ASM-T program?(ASM-T = Assistant Manager Trainee)
A: This entire transformation process will continue for at least three years. The ASM-T position code is scheduled to open in April 2013. At that point it will become possible to submit an application. If you are not selected for the program in 2013, you will remain an MGT and can continue for<----(THIS IS NOT A TYPO THEY'RE JUST THAT FUCKING DUMB) apply to ASM-T openings as they become available.
Q: What do I do now?(Really? Go fuck yourself Walgreens.)
A: Take some time to think about all of this new information and decide what path you want your Walgreens career to take. If you are an MGT on a day shift and want to be an ASM-T, we can work together over the next year to develop your skills so you can be as strong a candidate as possible. If you are an MGT on an overnight schedule, within the next 12 months you will be asked to choose between moving to a daytime MGT position within your district or step down to become an overnight shift lead.

I'm going to "love" those complaint calls about the pharmacy - "are you the manager?" --- "nope"

Guess what, absolutely no groceries will be rung out in my pharmacy. I am not going to waste my time with mispriced items and 50 cent refunds. Take it all up front, prescriptions only!

In fact Walgreens should just adopt a stricter return policy like other retailers. No refunds on items that sold with register rewards, or else the value of the reward comes out of the refund. They get scammed left and right on these. No refunds without a receipt period, no refunds on opened merchandise unless clearly defective, and no refunds on items bought at a different store.

Im currently a assistant store manager and just got off the phone with my store manager..had today off. this is what he told me
-2-3 years for the entire process to be fully implemented
-EXA's will be the new ASM (assistant store managers)
- Currrent MGTs will be offered the position of SFL (shift leader)..what a joke
- STLs will be interviewd for the SFL position.
- there will be 2 open postionss per community (or district, cant remeber) for the ASM in training pos.
- One ASM-T will work in the community store, while the other is like a "floater" manager and travel throughout the district.
- SFL pay will be between current STL and MGT pay
- no more raises
sooo this means that if your an assitant manager you get
-demoted
-pay cut
-no chance of a raise
...way to go walgreens. This company has gone to shit. I will be looking for a new job the second they cut my pay...untill then happy managing yall

But, that's only IF you take the SFL position. You in no way have to. They're not even taking applications for the ASM-T position for a whole year. And even if you don't get it then, you have another year to try and get promoted. So, at MINIMUM, you have a year to stay at your MGT wage. Why would you take the SFL?

They know that we are not going to stick around for less. They want us to quit so they start the sfls at $11 hr. My cashier said she would do it. It would be a raise for her. So there you go...

I would wait out the 2 years....because all their big plans will fall apart around them and will realize that oh crap we need to not continue with this lame idea. Plus once the lawsuits start flying in...oh and they will....guaranteed they will be in for some garbage then. Recoding and renaming is such utter BS....I care less if you call me an executive bull rider....just friggin pay me, let me do my job and stop trying to take shit away from me and my family you rich bastards!

Look at it this way: if you wait out the 2 years, do not get the ASM-T position, SFLs are all full in your district, they would most certainly have to lay you off, wouldn't they? And even if at the end of the 2 years you have/want to take the SFL position, in reality it's only a $3/hour pay cut, a job is better than no job. And you also have 2 years to come up with plan b, c, and d. If you don't want the SFL position, you have more than enough time to find another position elsewhere.

Yes you're right. I plan on sticking around and looking for another job meanwhile. I've worked for Walgreens 10 yrs and its getting worse year after year.$4 pay cut for me so it makes a difference. I have a degree and experience so I'm looking forward to moving on.

I had the talk with my MGR earlier today. I'm assuming Walgreens is just hoping most MGTs decide to leave the company between now and the next year or so. I find it funny they're assuring MGTs they can just apply for the asm-t position. One 24 hr store has 5-7 MGTs, not including the exa. Other stores have 2-3 depending on volume. My community has five stores not including the CL 24 hr store. Only one does not have a Exa. That's 30 or so MGTs for two open asm-t positions. Yea, Even though I'm a good manager and have always had good reviews, I don't feel really confident about my chances just based on pure numbers.

My family has been in retail and food/bev for a long time. My parents own a couple local franchises. I hope Walgreens plans on hiring a lot of LP officers after this. If there is one thing I've learned is that the less you pay a manager (Or key holder or whatever, whomever handles the cash flow), the more likely they are to unethical. Most likely these new shift leaders they hire will be unqualified and overworked and we know underpaid. My father bought a local fast food chain that had a ton of problems with theft from managers. It was a revolving door. He bumped the pay for managers up to $16 from $9 and the theft was never a prOblem again.

But consider this. Yes,$4/hr is HUGE, BUT if you take that you will be making roughly $2240/month before taxes. In my state, max unemployment is around $1400/month before taxes. So, why wouldn't you step down at the end of the 2 years instead of taking the layoff/termination? As they say, it's much easier to find a new job while you still have one...
