Here's a (serious) laugh for you all...especially with all of this 'restructuring' nonsense going on.

My MGR called me into the office today and asked me 'what's the dumbest program you've ever seen Walgreens implement.' I wasn't about to get into that one; instead, I told him 'I don't know' and left it at that. Well, Walgreens has come up with a new one...

Introducing the Blue Basket Program! Like the new suggestive sell accountability program, we have to now fill out a sheet with the names of our AM/PM employees and give them a QUOTA of how many blue baskets they offer to customers. We put the numbers down & keep the sheets just like with the suggestive sell program. Our DM is going to send down a 'official' sheet for us to use at some point. Yippee.

And I was just...honestly, I thought it was a joke. Early April Fools day, you know. I started LMAO because it was just the silliest/dumbest thing I had ever heard of, and I needed the laugh. When I came back up for air, that was when my MGR told me it was no joke; it came down through our MVP/DM.

So now, along with our SS numbers, we have to keep a record of blue baskets offered! I told my boss,'how the hell are they going to measure it? They can see SS numbers the next morning; they won't know how many baskets we give out! I mean, sure, I offer to get customers a basket/cart if they look like they need one. So do most of my other employees. But to set a quota for it is just ridiculous!

What's next? A smile KPI? I can see where they're coming from: basket = more items = more sales. Still, forcing us to do something we do already is a dumb idea. The really sad part is whoever came up with this lame idea probably got kudos for it. Not to mention already earning lots more $$$ than me...

we put racks of blue baskets in the middle of the store on every aisle. that's a good way to do it and should satisfy the corporate big wigs. the offering quota must have been the "brainstorm" of a moron who has to justify their job by coming up with stupid ideas

We have ours all over the store...RX, front, every other front end, every other middle end on the floorstrip leading from Cos to RX...I mean, what more could you want? Guess that's leadership for you...

As noted above, the entire company is set up in such a way that each person has to prove their worth to their boss by coming up with stupid ideas. Each stupid idea is supposed to solve whatever statistic the boss is bitching about.

It was some dumbass' job to come up with an idea to increase average sales per customer and this is what they came up with.

That goes for most companies, LOL! Unfortunately, my store now has to pay for this level of stupidity:-(. At least until it fades away, anyway.

I don't think it will, Tex. Just because the boys in corp make BIG bucks,it doesn't buy them common sense.

This is the sort of project that EXAs have to come up with for their ADSM project -- the only difference --  EXAs come up with better projects

Each one is dumber than the next. Can you imagine all the useless meetings they had about this at corporate?

Hysterical bureacratic nonsense. When I started working at corporate 24 years ago, my boss told me to question everything done and if I thought it didn't make sense or was a waste of time, stop doing it. Then another popular phase was to eliminate as much unnecessary paper pushing and paper as possible. All in an effort to become more efficient, thus saving money. Now, the bureacrates have to all put in their 2 cents and come up with ideas that "they" think will boost sales. So, someday in the future another bureaucrat will come up with the great idea to eliminate all this unecessary time wasting current ideas. And, yes, he will get a promotion and raise for his bright idea. So redundant.

Maybe the person who came up with the blue basket idea made a late night drunken bet with the another person to come up with the lamest idea that some suit would actually implement. The other drunken idea was hiding 1/3 of the ad in QR codes that only 1/2 the people can see.

Y would u suggest that? Greg is workin on the form as we speak-lol. It will be in compass by 4pm central time! Its more like, how can we aggressivly push customers out the door to our competitor, lets see, shove carts/baskets on them they dont want. Force flavoring, flu shots, donations and candy bars on them which if they wanted, they would have gotten one. Btw. How many diabetics fo you guys think we have killed by guilting them into buying candy bars? Just saying.

Confirmed blue basket program update. This should clear up your question.

1) You'll get a call or email from your district staff asking how many blue baskets you have.
2) After the company knows how many blue baskets you have onhand you will receive a package which contains barcode labels that you must individually put on your blue baskets.
3) You will have to scan the blue basket thru the register every time you offer it to a customer. It will be a no charge, empty item. This date will be pushed to a daily kpi which tracks blue baskets scanned.
4) Indeed, if you have a customer that you are waiting on, mid transaction, and ask another customer walking in if they would like a blue basket, you will have to explain to the customer that you are not charging them for the item (the blue basket). Corporate also specifies that this is a good time to mention the suggestive sell item of the month.
5) Accountability is kept in mind and your blue basket offering can be audited. When you scan the basket at the register the CCTV will take a still shot of you scanning the basket.
