Has anyone heard of these coming? I've seen hints and rumors as part of different threads, but haven't been able to find anything out.

i think they already did their dm layoffs with the first phase by combining some districts.how could they run the stores with no DM's unless they were ridding themselves of the highest paid dm's and promoting cheaper dm's. same thing for store managers but why would u do that. yes there are alot of hungry exa's but experience should count for something... i just dont see anything happening...

I was told by another store manager that this information was leaked out to him through a DTR guy. The rewiring for growth email was sent out in February. On it, there were series of questions from regular employees and store managers. One of the questions were, "will they be laying off store managers?"

I sure hope they do not do this us.

the only way they could do this would be to get rid of some (perhaps ones that have bad evaluations) and replace them with new promotions... doesnt seem to make sense with rewiring since there is no guarantee that would be cost cutting.... if they get rid of say 500 managers who have been there a long time , they could a) lose good managers along with not so good ones and b) set themselves up for age discrimination

I just read on another board that there's another position coming up that's called Executive managers. This might be the person replacing the store managers.

The executive manager was what I heard also, with either a store mgr or some group manager having control of multiple stores

Effective September 1, a community manager will be in charge of about 6 stores. Our district has about 30 stores. Community managers do not have to close one night per week. They will also get an extra bonus based on how well their stores do.

Question, if the store manager is going to be under a new name (executive store manager) and run the stores like they were the exa's, what is going to happen to the exa's already in the stores?? Are they the next to go, or are they going to replace the current store managers at a lower cost??

Community managers have their own store, but are also in charge of a a group of other stores, just like wagmgr said. The're supposed to be helping out the DM, since they now have an increased workload due to district merges in the last set of cutbacks. So think of them between MGR & DM. Nothing like cutting labor hours from the store and adding another level in the management ladder! At least we're all still working though...

I was promoted last week to asst manager, it seems they are still hiring for that position. This is in California.

There is a new buzz that Store Managers are going to be laid-off, and EXA's will be running stores - anyone else heard this?

The SCP booklet is totally non-job specific. It covers every employee at Walgreens as long as they meet certain specifics (i.e. length of service). If an MGT was involved (with more than 5 years of service) they would only get a max. 8 weeks of pay not 10 weeks (see page 4).

They are interviewing for 3 DM positions in the midwest as we speak. DM's are not getting laid off.

There seems to be DM job announcements in every area of the country. You have to wonder if they've come to the conclusion that their existing DMs are stretched too thin. If this is the case then they, once again, are backtracking (such as with CCR).
