i thought it was made clear before they were promoted that they were not supposed to be 'mini d.m.'s. they are supposed to be working with events for the community,etc. but it is turning out to be an ego trip with them giving notes to stores and having this attitude that they're somehow in charge of other stores. just wondering what feedback other have on this.

Yes still a concern. Does anyone know if WAG has tried having a CL run a 5-6 store set with just EXA's anywhere? I wouldn't put it past them.

My understanding is that the CL's main responsibility is to make sure that the DM's directives are being carried out because they are allegedly too busy themselves to visit stores as often as they used to.

that is the main responsibility......... for now... i have heard that eventually they may be a mini dm for 5/6 stores with the exa running them..who knows

WAG THE DOG is correct. In addition to that, CL's are there to help out with any other questions/concerns that a SM may have, help with any merchandising issues, pass on ideas and issues to upper management, and basically be a "sounding board" for their community.

Yep, for falsifying where they were when they were suppose to be on the job (at least that's the rumored reason). In the store's directory I noticed that "CL" was no longer next to the name of a manager I used to work for some years back and I asked another former manager of mine about it.

Hec, some years back I worked for a DM that was fired during his first year and that was also the rumored reason.

I think that the CL position is really still being defined. I know that mine is pulled in a million directions all day everyday. I know managers who pass every issue that comes along to the CL to deal with. No matter what the job discription is the DMs call them for everything and they spend alot of time dealing with issues and putting out fires. It's not like they are going to tell the DM no when he calls them to do something. It all depends on the DM they work for.
We were already told that as DMs leave the company there will be more CL positions created and the other DMs will just have more stores and DMs will not be replaced. Think along the lines of the MGTs being thinned out and replaced by STLs in all of the stores.

T think the CL's are soooo busy helping other store managers, It is a impossible job- and making sure thierstore is running smoothly- I thope that position leads tosomething better for them

CLs supposedly get bigger bonuses than just SMs (as from Walgreen's World). They are also getting training and etc, which I assume is a way for them to hopefully become DMs eventually, or at least open up the way.

I think that the Community Leader program is one of the few good ideas from Walgreens. It's nice that there is someone 'upper' looking out for your store and those around you. It makes you feel like you're being paid attention to more.

I think the CL program can be beneficial for more than just SMs. If a CL pays attention to MGTs and EXAs and their work, it can be something good for them. CLs tend to have their DMs ear.

i think its a program that will be used differently by each d.m. its not supposed to be this way but certain d.m.'s will try to pawn off what they can. i've already heard feedback from 2 different districts and some cl's seem to be over stressed of what it entails.

Oh it trickles down further down the food chain...some cl's delegate all their Dm projects to store managers that are at roster (cl's have an extra assistant for that reason). Leaving no one to tend to their stores.

I'm a CL, and yes the job is still not 100 percent defined. It's tough managing my own store, which of course, is my first priority, and getting out a few times weekly to help the other managers in my community. I must say, as stressful as it can be at times, I'm glad to be in this position. I really enjoy helping the other managers make improvements in their store condition, and increase their sales and profit. I do, however, work with a couple of CL's who are on a "power trip", and it is completely sickening. They do not have the respect of the managers they work with, and their community stores look like crap. At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat---doing more with less! To all of the other CL's out there----get over yourselves, and do what you're supposed to do---help our company improve our bottom line so our employees can remain employed!

CAJ, how are dealing with management vacations in your community? When we aré at roster it sucks having management on vacation in a busy store. Only The CL's store gets vacations covered. Management gets rotated a lot and it's murphy's law that we get The ones that haven't taken it! Our CL is self centered and only takes care Of herself! Whatever makes her look good! I feel like something gotta give!!!! All we hear is accountability, but they aré asking us the impossible! I can't bear to go into detail! I just have a feeling it is only in our área!

Just look happy---We help each other out in our community wherever possible. Actually, if need be, all of the communities in our district help each other out with staffing, or any other issues.
Sorry to hear that your experience with the New Walgreens has not been a positive one.

a good CL will come across as sort of a coach instead of one that you just assume will snitch on you to the DM. The most successful district trainers (when there was the position) had the attitude of a coach. Why? Because the store manager will be less likely to hide problems from the CL whereas, of course, if the CL is the type to snitch the store manager will be a hec of a lot more apt to hide problems.
