Wade Miquelin CFO is now recently on the BOD of Acadia Healthcare (a company helping people with addiction problems). He has also recently been arrested for 2 DUIs one while driving on the wrong side of the road. How can he be making decisions for people with addictions when he is clearly not in recovery himself? Further how can he be making cuts causing job layoffs at Walgreens while not making sacrifices himself? This is so wrong

He blew a 0.126 on the breathalyzer. If he weighs approx 200lbs that's about 7 drinks before getting in a car endangering the lives of people on the road. What makes us think he really cares about us or customers when he is putting innocent people on the road at risk? Be well!

How much do you pay in student loans every month? I know pharmacists, especially if they went to school later in life, paying $2000+ a month trying to get out from under loans.
Stop crying about it baby. I'm broke because I didn't plan well. I suck. Feel sorry for me.

And yes, I consider myself blessed that I has someone in my life that taught me how to properly manage money!!!

Then if it's even shouldn't the pharmacist have just as much a right to be upset about pay cuts as you? You're contradicting yourself.

On 3/19 I was called to district office & told that I was one of double digit number of full time pharmacists that was being laid off immediately based upon seniority. My health insurance ended immediately. My severance package included unused vacation time and 2 weeks pay foe every year I had worked. Nobody local is hiring retail.

BTW - I was with company almost 4 years, never once written up for any disciplinary actions. Meanwhile there is a RPh who a couple years ago was removed from store to float because he made sexually harassing comments to female tech half his age. He was not laid off.

Not really. Bc I know I'm good enough to go get a job just about anywhere for what I'm getting here. I know the pay cuts suck, and I'm sorry about that. I know it sounds like I'm being a bitch, but I'm really not. I'm just saying we get into a mindset of Walgreens being the only place we can work. Whereas, there are a ton of places that I'm sure you and I could go. We just have to be willing to take that leap. Saturday is my last day with this company bc i got hired by someone with a $1000 increase monthly. Hope you can find something as well.

Walgreens has been accused of age discrimination, and must be very careful firing and hiring. Therefore, by using seniority as a basis for letting pharmacists go, they can avoid any type of discrimination charges. That explains why they may be keeping on some folks that really should be let go over new ones. It also sounds like they are setting up others that work in the front end, with the evaluation process. No matter how you look at it, they will find an exception to keep the workers that are "well liked".

It is interesting to note that in 2009 Walgreens (as well as CVS) donated substantial money to a new pharmacy school in my state. Of course this makes financial sense for them to encourage flooding the market with pharmacists... more supply less pay. Why did our professional organizations not try to stop this? This is exactly what happened with lawyers and law schools. Now pharmacists are being laid off and nowhere to go. Pay will go down or stagnate. It will be at least a decade before all of this plays out. Time to adapt and diversify with further education. This is the writing on the wall. The best of luck to you all.

<<< i have been telling interns and all those young kids trying to get into pharmacy school to stay away from these money sucking schools. I have always felt that it was only a matter of time before many young lads got so disapointed. I am going back to school to get a Physician Assistant MS to kind of partially insulate my future from this madness. Unfortunately, these schools are continuing to push young kids to take up massive amounts of debt to go into pharmacy. Wow what a life!!!!

Seniority will be phased out at some point in the future. Make sure you keep to your own goals you put in your reviews or even any projects they ask you to do.

Than learn how to deal with angry patients instead of pawning them off on whatever poor hourly schlub happens to be "manager on duty" for the day. If it's your "fiduciary responsibility" than don't break that trust by being a condescending prig to the patient in the first place. Too bad they don't teach interpersonal communication skills in pharmacy school, huh?

We used to have tons of opportunities. If I got fed up one place, there was always a job somewhere else who was desparate for pharmacists and paid me even more money. Not now. My wife saw the writing on the wall in January and insisted I start looking. Two months later, the store across street and popping up on every corner offered me a job. Only 1 person in the graduating class at the local school has been offered a job. When I got got out, we all had jobs. Scary!

It wasn't that long ago Walgreens offered "scholarships" to work in these districts. you know, the scholarships you have to pay back if you don't work for them the same number of years you take it out. If you quit, tack on the interest. Do they still offer this? Obviously referrals have been gone for a while. Remember sign-on bonuses?

No more scholarships...at least not in my area. The only thing we can do is file a complaint (can be anonymous) with ACPE. This is the organization that is going full force accrediting these new pharmacy schools. The ACPE has members of the board and other pharmacy prof organizations. Pharmacists are in actuality killing our profession by flooding the market. We have our colleagues to blame. Contact ACPE let them know about the layoffs and to STOP accrediting new pharmacy schools.

These schools are forking over the cash to the ACPE. Everything about pharmacy from the students to the spatula is about money now. Same reason prof organizations will not trash retail chains. You see who advertises in their mags?

Trying to explain personal finance to a pharmacist is like telling fish to live on land. Pharmacists have no idea what is actually happening in this country and to say that minimum wage is "livable" is retarded. Go back to school pharmacist. You did not learn anything useful. And when I have to pay for your upside down mortgage that you felt entitled to at the time, come see me and we can discuss why you are a complete moron.:)

Why would it be different? I don't know what you're implying with "living wage" but as long as someone lives in the US there is no such thing as a non-livable wage. It all depends on your sense of entitlement. Food, clothing, and shelter is affordable on minimum wage. The problem lies in people who feel they are entitled to more and higher qualities of the basics. No you cant live in a 4 BR condo in NYC on minimum wage but that doesnt mean you cant find somewhere to live. Its absurd what some people define as "taking care of their families." Do I enjoy things that someone on minimum wage doesnt? Yes. Do I earn it? Yes. Am I overpaid? Obviously the people who pay me don't believe so. Could I live on 32 hours? Obviously, but not at the same standards I do now. If I were forced to cut back to 32 hours I would do 1 of 2 things: Work to find a full time position that maintains my standards or I would lower my standards. That simple yet people believe they deserve so much more. Your choices determine the outcome of your life 98% of the time. If Walgreen's cuts your pay and you feel you deserve more then find someone who pays you what you deserve. If youre not happy about Wasson's pay then work for someone who doesnt make as much. If you cant then you cant. Its no one elses fault. That's my philosophy. You can choose to agree or disagree but it makes sense.
The above rant is directed at rph. What an a--hole.
