LP is not supposed to tell who called, that is if you even provided your name and even if you did they still are not supposed to tell that.

What if its a situation where if the person in trouble just happens to put two and two together and figure out what happened?

I was put in a situation where I had gotten into trouble with LP and there was only one assistant manager (course they told me who it was which might have been a no-no?) who could have gone to the SM and only one front end witness (who confessed to me and begged forgiveness)... And if I wasn't told, I'd have to have been an idiot to not figure out who they were.

Course my situation was kinda unique and didn't involve stealing or discrimination/harassment or substance abuse. So.. Meh.

All in all, it was the SM who made the final call to get LP involved, who then got the legal department involved, and yeah, I could have taken things really badly and retaliated, but I'm not like that.

I can't imagine someone who would go as far as retaliation in any given situation though, especially if their job is important?

Speaking of unprofessional, we have a manager who gives all the "hot" girls and their friends employee discounts in the hopes of getting their phone number and their friends, friends have been trying to get in on it by asking to speak to the manager in question.

Other managers know of this, I don't know if the SM does, but they're all letting it slide.

He has many kids who all belong to single mothers who live in their own homes, not his, and gives them all employee discounts along with their friends too.

I guess this is a grey area?

"LP is not supposed to tell who called, that is if you even provided your name and even if you did they still are not supposed to tell that. "---I don't think it takes a genius to figure out who called. My question is she did something unprofessionally wrong at work towards me and I had no choice but to talk to LP. Now I'm afraid she'll find ways to get back at me.

Grey area??? This is no grey area. It's grounds for instant termination. This sounds like a bumb I wouldn't mind getting fired. Hec, you can too. As a member of the store leadership I have access to the electronic journal and to the videos. I can correlate one with the other (actually do LP's work for them) and notify LP with all of the specifics. They then would interview a lot of the the store staff and see if anyone else was doing the same thing and also who knew what and when. Since you're not a member of the store's leadership all you would have to do is to notify LP of the exact time of a transaction, what register and a discription of the "customer" receiving the discount. It's a slam dunk. This guy needs to go --- NOW.

Altec is right. Though I have seen a blind eye turned to employee discount use by LP. However, the case benefited the store in a high crime area and not just the employee or the person getting the discount. Even though it is against policy one store we gave uniformed police an employee discount. This greatly increased the foot traffic of local cops and cut down on theft.

I am sure this is completely different.

Any half-witted MGT is going to know that the penalty for retaliation is always far worse than whatever you initially reported her for, so in the unlikely event that there is retaliation, just report it at the first sign. Good luck with the situation.

Don't be someone who tells on people. That's pathetic if you do.

Lahey, unless you were sexually assaulted or harassed, I don't see any reason you would want to contact Loss Prevention. Did you receive a pay increase for doing so?

Our LP lives locally so she likes to pass trough our store on the way home.
Sometimes when her sister is in urgent need of grocery shopping, our LP lady will accompany her into the store so her sister can get a discount.
Seems fair I think.

Judge what I said all you want.........it's in black and white that they are not supposed to tell who calls and if anyone does they shouldn't have to worry about retaliation in any form. Does it happen? I'm sure it does.

Personally, for me and at my store, I've come to the conclusion the best thing(albeit very hard) to do is to go in and do your job and whatever your given to do, keep your mouth shut, and go home at the end of your shift. I say that because unfortunately for me, I am not in a position to lose my job.

Had a lazy assistant manager who spent most her shift in the office on the phone and eating ice cream.

It was the weekend and a large amount of add tags hadn't been put up.

In a desperate attempt to look good, she asked two clerks and an ex employee (a friend) to stay behind an hour or so after closing to help put up tags.

One of the clerks said they wanted no part and that it was wrong, swore not to say a word, the manager let her go home while the others got to work on the tags.

I think a day or so went by when the clerk who didn't want to be involved confessed to me in the break room about what had happened, I noticed an STL in passing and said very loudly "She had an ex-employee put up add tags!?", the cat was out of the bag, SM had to be informed investigate, loss prevention were called in to investigate.

The clerk who confided in me has ALMOST but not quite, forgiven me. I could have cost her her job. But I was taking a gamble that it wouldn't happen.
There was no retaliation from that manager, but a lot of her co-worker "friends" would harass that girl and made her life a living hell. I don't know if this manager was behind it or not.

In the end, the manager was fired for other reasons, it turned out that she had done so many things wrong that the SM didn't even need to bring loss prevention or the DM into the office to fire her. It was just the both of them alone and he had full permission to do so.
He offered her to stay the remainder of her shift, but she refused and walked out and drove home.

People stopped picking on the clerk who confessed to me after that. Whenever she brings up what I'd done, I'd jokingly say it was nothing personal, she was just a casualty of war.

We're friends now, and like I said a few threads up, she was the witness with the current assistant manager which resulted in my temporary suspension.

So, in a way, I got what I deserved, right?

Karma is a bitch.

If its your sm, and if he a worthy one. He is going to do a lots of documentation on everything bad you do then he gonna call the dm and employee relation an get all the t cross and I dotted and bye bye you go. And worry because no employee is perfect. You will mess up.

But you see, that's the thing NOBODY is perfect. Mistakes will happen. You go in and do your job and give 100% and they see your doing a good job and then they pile even more and more on you............it gets stressful.....

Yep. Be very afraid. Retaliation is alive and well at Walgreens.

If you really want some kind of relief then start by documenting anything the manager does to you. If it really hits the fan then documentation will be your best friend. Make sure it has dates and is professional.

The best advice to anyone is to keep a daily journal of your workday. I know most people don't want to think about work when they get home but it may come in handy some day. Can also be a stress-reliever.

I used to do the journal thing, it was never meant for prying eyes, but I was told those seem more like hate books and can be very mentally damaging and its better to just throw it away.
I saw it as a stress-reliever too, until I got paranoid that people might read it since I'd leave it in my locker. So its thrown away now.
