I seen the packet in the breakroom today. Are we looking to close stores already or is this for possible MGT layoffs?

How does the title of the packet "Salary Continuation Plan" infer the closing of stores or MGT layoffs? Just asking.

My district is having mandatory meetings on July 7 for MGTs (and maybe EXAs also - not sure). This more than likely has to do with severance packages. It will probably work like what they did with the higher ups. They are looking for volunteers by giving the volunteer twice as many weeks severance pay as they would have received if the were forced out. This is why corporate was pressing for the evaluations to be done at the stores by the end of May. I believe that those who are forced out in the end will be those who didn't have an adequate evaluation score based on their years of service. In other words those with a longer period of employment will be judged more harshly than those with less time. If a 10 year MGT rates only as "meets expectations" along with a 2 year MGT that 10 year MGT will be the one let go. That's just my hunch. Walgreens better be very careful about this or they'll will be flooded with discrimination suits.

The link to the definition - post #4. Also "Salary Continuation Plan" is the exact term used when they did the layoffs at corporate last year.

Thank you Geraldo. Another question. Why would this be found in a break room? I am so suspicious.

Yeah, I find it strange too that it would be found in the breakroom unless some employee left it there. There is another link that helps to verify this story however.

This is where all of our benefit packets, Applause, and World mags are placed. I know a lot of stores that place them there.

Question: How do I change my location? I don't even live in Rocky Mount. The top bar didn't change my location at all.

Yes NC a lot of benefit packs are found in the breakroom, but a SCP packet is a bit more serious, a packet like this usually does not float to a breakroom table. About your location with the Forum, you are better off not broadcasting your location. Geraldo ....thank you.

I seriously doubt MGTs would be offered a severance package. Store Managers, yes. But I think MGTs would just be laid off if they really wanted to get rid of some. Seems it would be cheaper (employers pay only a small percentage of their total payroll towards state unemployment benefits based on their "experience rating," or how many former employees are collecting. In my state it maxes out at about 5%). I could see the company getting rid of store managers, letting EXAs run the store (they do most of the work now), while being overseen by the CL, kind of a multi-store manager. I was surprised to see people promoted to EXA this year... this tells you something. And yes, I suspect the evaluations this year had an ulterior motive. More changes are certainly coming. Que sera, sera.

Every store received a small brown box via UPS with booklets in it. There are healthcare benefits booklets and the salary continuation booklet. The box is probably at the store and the manager has not seen it or opened it yet but every store in the company was sent it. I do believe the salary contnuation booklet is a sign of what is coming.

Ok, here's a brief run down on the Salary Continuation Plan. It doesn't target any type of employee or department. If you're eligible (length of service for being full time/part time) then you are covered with this plan. It details what you will get in case you are let go because of a reduction in the work force or your department is eliminated. They don't even call it a severance package plan. For hourly employees the most you will be able to get is 8 weeks of pay (1 week of pay for every 2 years of service with a max. of 8 weeks).

Also, in order to "benefit" from this plan you will have to submit a "waiver and release agreement" and the restrictions (i.e. non-competition restriction) will be based on what your position was.

The best that anyone can guess at now is that there will certainly be more job reduction/eliminations within the year. That's a no-brainer. When these packets start being given to employees this coming week rumors and speculation will run rampant.

Oh yes one more thing, the July 7 meeting for Asst. Managers in Houston is a "training meeting". It is not about layoffs or severance packages.

We also have MGT training meetings about once a year in our district.... I think one is about due.

Geraldo I really don't think Corp. would announce in roughly a month we are going to have a meeting about layoffs or severance packages. It will be a surprise announcement.

Iv been with walgreens 5 years. The first 3 were really great I mean they made you feel like you could go as far as you wanted in the company. Now for the past 2 years iv seen a huge change happening. Its not about the employees anymore. Walgreens has lost focus on what they were. It makes me sad because I really thought i would be with walgreens for more years to come but now I'm not sure ill be there another 6 months with what they are doing. I want to know how they can afford all this new ccr crap (which iv gotten more complaints from customers about then anything good) but they have to let people go (the people who put their heart into the company.) Makes no sense!

I have seen this coming for a while. I mean, we all trained our replacements (STL) who are making less money than us. Mine makes about $7 less an hour than me. I can honestly see our stores being run by the store manager and exa who are both salary so they can be worked as much as is needed and not worry about overtime. They could eliminate most of the SIMS side of the STL's job allowing them to focus more on manager type responsibilities. They don't need MGT's anymore. Think of how much money Walgreens would save by getting rid of 1 MGT per store. That is all they care about anyway. Walgreens is going down the crapper.

We received this today along with the benefit booklet it seems to me that it is pretty damm clear where we are headed too.The good thing is that the cuts are going to be done by performance thats why all the pushing around to get them done
by the deadline.
We all know that their is alot a Mgt's that slack around and need to be let go.
