I have been following this board, and others, for some time. I am not an employee of WAG but am in the industry (PBM) so I am very interested. I frequent 3 WAG stores in my suburban midwestern city and had a few observations:
1. All the employees with whom I deal are consistently pleasant, polite, and helpful. My stores employ several elderly folks.
2. The stores never appear to be particularly busy. I have never seen more than 5-10 shoppers in the main store at one time (never go to the Rx so I can't comment).
3. None of the employees ever appear to be in a hurry, rushed, or very busy. I have noted store managers stocking shelves on several occasions. I would describe the environment as "calm." The stores always seem to be well-stocked and orderly.
4. Each of these stores has drive thrus which always seem to have cars.
5. I sometimes visit an urban store near my office and don't notice anything different, with the exception of the "Mahogany" line of cards which always seem to start off with "Baby,"
6. Not once, in many visits, has any employee ever said Be Well to me (not that I care). One time as I was checking out I picked up my change and said Be Well! to the cashier. She looked at me like I had three heads.
7. Can someone post back with the meaning of all the acronyms? I get AM and ASM, and I assume -T means they are in training for that position. What is SFL, EXA, STL, HPS, etc?
Thanks

I'd have to agree with you on the cleanliness and such of the stores. Most stores I have worked at have been clean, and have good employees. I am an mgt. I've worked in the slums of Baltimore, and now I am in a rich neighborhood in the northeast. Our store is slamming busy, however we maintain it nicely, and have loyal customers. The stores you have visited perhaps are not busy. In stores such as mine the SM is often in the office, and the assistants are running around like chickens with our heads cut off. I do however enjoy my job.

SFL= Shift leader (key holder, new assistant manager position), EXA=Executive assistant manager (now ASM), STL=Store team leader (now SFL), HPS=Head Photo Specialist.

Black people have a reputation to uphold as the greatest lovers in the world, thus all Mahogany cards starting with "baby."

Remember that member of Boys 2 Men who would always speak those lines, in the middle of the song, with the really deep voice? Imagine it is him saying it.

Black people also comprise 40% of the prison population but only 13% of the total population.

Reminds me of a discussion in the film "American History X" when the liberal Jew boyfriend responds to such statistics with something like: "Could this be more of an example of the discrimination present in the judicial system?"

Reality check. Go outside to urban areas and see what percentage of people are troublemakers. Go to the malls, go to the theaters, take public transit.

Worse are the other ethnicities, including whites, who are now apeing the ghetto trash behavior as "cool".

You are in PBM but yet you never go to the RX on visits?

Reality check: have someone bring you and your family, by force, to another country and enslave you and your children for generations. Then one day, have them suddenly cut your family free. Of course, you won't own any businesses or property. You won't benefit from inheritance, knowledge or anything else passed down thru generations to make you successful. You'll just be....free. Let me know how it goes for ya.

My parents came here with nothing but a little bit of money and no language skills. They worked hard, saved every cent, sacrificed and got by with out any government handouts. My father refused it. We didn't need forms in our native language because he had his english translation dictionary.

I had nothing passed on to me because my past generations were left behind. I took in the American culture and opportunities and made the best of it. Sure I just work at Walgreens, but I'm not one of the 47% of takers. We made out better than some ghetto trash who are born here with citizenship, handouts, affirmative action, and now government forms in 100 different languages.

In one generation, we attained what others could not in five. That's how it worked out for me.

You did have something passed on to you, the MOST important thing of all. The KNOWLEDGE and PHILOSOPHIES of what it takes to succeed. And, I'm sure your parents had it passed on to them as well. Were your grandparents enslaved?

It IS the culture and traditions of a people which leads to their success or failure. Or, it is certainly a contributing factor.

That's not to say that black Americans are devoid of all responsibility, they aren't. And I also don't believe that patronizing them like the Democrats and socialists do will help them in the long run either. But it's a little bit more complex than just saying "You're free now homie, good luck!"
