Our supervisor told us today that after the new year we wil have to follow new guidelines when filling oxycodone, etc.... He said it was a 10 step process that will make it almost impossible for us to fill any of these prescriptions. He said this was on top of the good faith policy that we have now.
Anyone else heard anything about this?

The "Good Faith Polcy" is anything but good faith. It just puts the pharmacist between the wall and the sword. The good faith law says that the RPh is filing a prescription in the good faith that it is a valid Rx, from a valid doctor and to a valid patient. WAG just gives you a bunch of rules that you have to follow and if the RPh doesn't and something happens then you are resonsible. Just check the CII cabinet and say that you don't have it. Unfortuatelly, real patients will suffer.

Thanks for the reply but that's not what the post was intended for. Anyone aware of the new policy coming out?

Good example of how big government gets too big for its own good. If we decriminalized victimless crimes we could cut the DEA budget down by 75% and law enforcement down by perhaps 40%.

From The Orlando Sentinel website -

Walgreens pharmacies in Oviedo, 2 other Florida locations face suspension 8:04 p.m. EST, November 27, 2012|By Desiree Stennett, Orlando Sentinel

Three Walgreens stores across Florida have 30 days to convince the Drug Enforcement Administration that they should be permitted to continue filling prescriptions for oxycodone, hydrocodone and other controlled substances.

The DEA is requiring the stores in Oviedo, Ft. Pierce and Hudson, a city is Pasco County, to prove that their pharmacy employees are serving a genuine community need and advocating against prescription-drug addiction that the agency says has plagued Florida since 2009. The Walgreens distribution center in Jupiter was suspended in September as the DEA investigated the company's systems to detect and report suspicious pharmaceutical orders.

Ok the new policy is an 11 step process that involves filling out a form for each C2 over Qty #50 or 10 day supply.
The questions are like..... Is the prescriber writing within his scope of practice, Has the patient driven an abnormal distance to the pharmacy or prescriber, Is the patient paying cash..... Etc....
If you can answer those questions and feel comfortable filling the script you have to call the physician and ask a series of questions regarding a diagnosis, expected length if treatment, other treatment options, prescription history when patient was first seen, etc.....
This paper work has to be filed with the hardcopy if the prescription is filled. You basically can no longer fill bogus C2s for pain meds.

Not to mention that we're sending these prescriptions to the DEA, which has to be some kind of HIPAA violation

Just imagine how much money our taxpayers could save if we decriminalized victimless crimes (drugs) and fired all the law enforcement personnel that go with it. The war on drugs failed. It didn't just fail- it got it's ass whooped.

This is actually effective as of December 1st. Part of the DEA requirements for the FL oxycodone debacle. This binder is also their way of finding out if we are still telling customers that we are OOS instead of following the guidelines and faxing your local DEA office.

It is not violating HIPAA. Most fills for the target drugs will now take 24 hours. Happy days are here again.

I believe that Walgreens is going to far. I was denied my medication refill for Methadone and Dilaudid. I have been on these medications for about a year. Before them it was hell. I lived with great pain that caused me to attempt suicide twice.
The Pharmasist was scary she became very angry when I asked about what was the new policy, she became very excited and would not stop repeating the same thing to me. She spoke to my Doctor(which is who I see all the time for my scripts) but that was not enough. She said that she did not feel comfortable filling my RX.
I think she got mad at me for asking questions about the new policy. This sucks. I will no longer go to Walgreens for anything.

I called a walgreens and asked them when my prescription would be filled and they gave me a time and a date on to when I was going to get my script. The next day a mean pharmacist left a voicemail informing me about my script and saying that there was a problem. I called her back asking what the problem was when I was approved to get my script in two weeks, but she corrected me by saying it was up to her to decide wether I should get MY script or that she could throw it away. And her choice was to throw it away! At this time I had to go to the ER because of my medical issue I could not handle because of her decision of dispensing " MY REFILL". This pharmacist also stated that I was no longer welcome as a customer of walgreens. Isnt this negligence/malpractie/ Discrimination??? She did not give me a chance and it seemed to me like she didn't want to. I've obtained a lawyer for suffering. I suggest others do the same.

It sounds like the pharmacist did make it worst than it should have been. As far as I know, we cannot deface or destroy a script for the GFD policy. So, she did make it worst. But a lawyer? For your "suffering"? Get a life.

I called walgreens to ask when my script would be ready for pickup and they said that it would be ready in two weeks. The next day a rude pharmacist left me a voicemail saying that their was a problem with me receiving my script. So I called back to ask what the problem was and she said that it was up to her if she wanted to give me my script or if she wanted to throw it away, and told me that I was not welcome as a customer of walgreens anymore. How is this when I've been a customer for years?? After that happened I had to go to the ER due to my medical issue. Because of this i've obtained a lawyer for suffering.

I don't know why you posted twice but there are two possibilities here. Your just another employee making up stories in this forum to store up trouble or your only telling a small part if the story. Which one is it?
