My store was short staffed because of call outs the entire weekend, because customer service at my store is about mobs of people waiting in line for over twenty minutes to buy a roll of tin foil.I quess our store management is not interested in $$ because no attempts were even made to find staff, what a bunch of losers!

Are you sure they didn't attempt to get someone from another store to fill in? They do this often. Having said that I'd expect a lot of people who already had black friday etc off had plans themselves and weren't able to come in.

The people that called off won't get holiday pay for thanksgiving, the ones who called on saturday will.

LOL, have you ever tried to call in employees to work to cover another employee's shift? Especially at stores in low income neighborhoods, you can forget that sh*t!

Sounds like another reason we need immigrant labor in America. Open up those borders!

Trying to get people to show up to cover for people (losers) who didn't on holidays is a freakin' lost cause.

Who cares if they are paid holiday or not....you call in on a holiday and you should be terminated immediately. So what if they threaten a lawsuit...unfair labor bs.......not many lawyers I know take Medicaid.. If you are worried about legal action just document them hard and get rid of them. Usually crappy workers like that are easy to paper trail out because they are dumb and don't know how to play the game.

Our SM is *almost* hardcore to the point of not giving a damn if that is the case.
If you call in on a holiday, your butt is gone.
Your car is breaking down too many times, you're gone.

If you take 45-60 min lunch breaks, your 15 min break is twice as long, you're always late, take an entire day to put one item away from the truck and leave the rest for the next shift.... NOTHING! Because you've got kids and its the SM's soft spot.

I swear, I should adopt a kid just so I can get away with murder.

You have to be careful of employees or anyone who uses children as an excuse...I always say they are your children not the stores. You made the choice to have them so it is your responsibility to take care of them. Good employees don't use their children as excuses....the crappy ones do it without a second thought. Show no mercy to those employees.

I wish it were that simple. Many stores are in low income neighborhoods. Many low income people are happy with their existence. As long as they have enough to survive, the latest pair of sneakers, a new cell phone and a bag of snacks- they're good to go. They know the govt has got their back whether they work or not.

They will hop from one job to the next and if they get fired or quit, no big deal. They just go back and live with their mom, sister, whoever that is also living off the govt.

Payroll will be based on past sales...this is called forecasting. Being fully staffed will create more sales than being just "adequately" staffed...yet corporations like WAG and most retailers continue to forecast on past sales when they were only "adequately staffed."

Its a vicious cycle of penny-pinching ignorance...and lost sales.

Staff it,and they will come...and come back.
Ask Starbucks and McDonalds.

Oh yes the the let me use my kid excuse so I can call off every weekend and not help task.My stores a 24-7 telethon, pity party for those sorry subjects. You would think the people with kids would want to work and make money to provide for them , but this is not the case.

? How can there even be more sales when often people chuck their products on the front tables , walk out because they waited far too long. XMAS and weekends should be all hands on deck , READY TO GO! Not the standard weekend dash for the doors, where my stores SM/EXA know and have awareness for days about the lack of staff. I beleive the people that have unlimited hours such as SM/EXA should be required to cover the front end and not leave a store in a state of duress.The people on salary should be required to cover all and any shortage esp on high volume shifts like a Black Friday.Get a GRIP ! GHEESH ...

My store has the double standard rules only apply for the people that work.Now if you call out 2 times a week, are late everyday, leave 2 times a week after calling out 2 times,If you ring up only 4 customers per a shift for months on end, leave the cos area not faced for 4 solid months you meet the criteria for employee of the month at my store! My EXA is a dink that should not work with the public because making fun of the handicapped worker we have is disgusting enough and the next time I am told about this by another worker, or if I ever happen to wittness that type of abuse , I will call the police tell them to come to my location because I will shove his balls down his throat. Making fun of people that are slow learners, suffer from disadvantage or mild retardation is pathetic and should never happen.UGHHHHHHHH IT'S THAT GROSS!
