true story from "the city". a guy handed a clerk a note that said "i have a gun. give me all your money in the register".
the clerk couldn't read English so she got on the intercom and said "customer service on the front please".
luckily the guy was bluffing. got scared and walked out leaving the note.

Oh god that poor woman. Imagine how she must have felt when she realized what it said and how close she came to harm. If that had been real..

It is sad that we would think it's okay to hire someone who can't read English for a front register position: the face that is seen the most by FE customers.

God forbid someone asked her to read a package of Metamucil or expect her to follow a coupon's limitations.

yay for diversity (and yay ignorance prolly prevented a robbery) but ultimate company fail IMO

I don't see how she could have passed the competency testing. When I applied, I had to take a test which included a lot of reading and answering questions. I don't know about anyone else, but mine was in English and I didn't see an option for any other language.

Or, management just didn't care and only needed a warm body.

But the story made me LOL cuz I see these types of workers everywhere, not just Walgreens. But at the same time I pitied her for almost having been shot.

I disagree, we have an underage cashier who is one of our best new employees in ages, she's polite, nothing but helpful and cares so much about helping her customers it literally makes your heart bleed for her.

We have a system where the underage worker will glance at the buggy for liquor and send them to a register with someone who isn't underage, or call one of us to the second register to ring them up.

Fast for everyone in line waiting, fast for that customer, and our regular drinkers will even go straight to the photo counter while i'm there instead of going to the front when she's on duty.

But 20% of the customers would rather slam the bottle of wine down on the counter and walk out, or leave their buggies with groceries and walk out before she can even get a word out edge-wise.

What... a 10-15 second wait, sometimes less is too much for you? I'm a damn good speed walker no matter what end of the store I'm at.

And to all those customers... if there is a god, I hope you all end up locked in an AA building for all eternity, in hell.

I'm amazed these people haven't crushed this girls spirit yet.
