I work overnights every other week... Last rotation my rph sent me home sick (coughing... Lungs on fire ) so Monday went to see MD.. It was a bronchial infection which needed antibiotics. Got a md note. Still this rotation not feeling the greatest, but I'm here. Store mgr says no holiday pay as I missed the last day if my rotation before the holiday. Really!? Isn't there some discretion he can use?

You were sent home. You did not call off. You are entitled to pay. Let your SM know you've contacted employee relations to clarify.

If you worked the majority of your shift on the day before the holiday you shouldn't lose your holiday pay

Or you can stop smoking cigs and putting your mouth on dirty things and maybe washing your hands more......just a thought fo people that think i feel sorry for when they do stupid crap to get sick....i hate smokers that complain about their stupid throat and then go and light up....go F yourself!

Should I make a stink about only getting 7 hrs of Holiday pay? Last week I was sick during truck and our Overnight Mgr, not SFL sent me home. My EXA has a thing about calling in/being sick so I was gonna try to grin and bare it and the Overnight Mgr saw how sick I was and sent me home. I usually work 39-40 hrs a week and that extra hour means something to me. Me bringing it up, is it warranted?

it's based on your average hours over an extended period of time, not just one week. Being sent home early ONE day is not going to affect your average hours by a significant amount. are you perhaps confused?

it used to autofill holiday pay... your sm would have to purposefully delete it if you worked some of that shift...

and I had a time that I had stuff coming out both ends, a fever and at the Take Care the next day at my home store where the store manager saw how sick I was (plus I gave my doctor's note)... Store Manager still didn't use his discretion to give me holiday pay. Some people are just cold hearted bastages :P

I would have paid you the holiday pay, but I certainly don't think you were entitled to it. There's no way for a manager to determine an employee's true level of sickness. The holiday pay is essentially a bonus for those employees whose attendance doesn't let the store down around the holidays. Your body failed you. It's not your fault, but it isn't the store's or company's fault either- so why should they pay you the bonus?

A doctor's note is one of the most useless piece of sh*t ever contrived. Everyone knows doctor's will write a note for anything just to prevent a possible lawsuit against them.

Certified illness or injury is the wording in policy. dont know what that means if not a doctors note.

FYI... An MD note saying I was to be off that final day of my rotation is considered a "certified illness" , and therefore I will get holiday pay. It took employee relations, the district mgr and payroll to get the issue cleared up. So now a mass email will go out to the district with the clarification of policy.

I have a question about vacation time. I plan to put in my notice on Monday. I have a week of vacation leftover from last year, will I be paid for it?
