SFL Maximum Pay Rate

If I'm not mistaken, in the 2nd verison of the Field Transformation FAQs, there was a question about pay rate increases for the SFL position. The answer was that the rate would go up based on a cost of living increase. In this 3rd version, released on April 2, the question is posed - "Are the shift lead rate maximums permanent?" A: "No. Pay ranges will be reviewed on an annual basis. Any changes will be communicated with the district manager." This leaves me to believe that upper management is leaving open the possibility of a sizable increased pay rate based on the need that they will have for SFLs next year. It may all depend on how successful they are in attracting people to the SFL position with the meager wages they're offering.

I'll be getting the max when my demotion starts....I opted to stay on midnites. I hope they do decide to raise it. It's depressing to think I'll be working year after year and not getting a raise.

It will go up as cost of living and minimum wage go up, not because anyone feels it's deserving of a better rate. And "reviewed annually" certainly doesn't mean increased annually. It's more of a meeting to determine how much longer they can get away with the current cap before they have to bump it up 25 cents due to increase in cost of living and minimum wage, so you're looking at a possible quarter every few years or so. So, don't get too excited. I don't mean to sound pessemistic, but more so realistic.

How do you know you are getting the max rate when the demotion starts? I've heard two different stories where I am.#1. All mgt's that accept the sfl position will get the max rate. And #2. I've heard that the rate you start at depends on the amount of time you have been with the company. I am also an overnight mgt and I also chose to continue on the overnight shift. I'm just wondering which of those stories is true.

I don't think years of service affect the rate for demotions from MGT, but that's possibly true for those being promoted from STL or another lower position. It says in sections of storenet that, 1, Max rate is 14.50, and 2, "Managers who step down will make the maximum rate, 14.50". It's pretty plainly spelled out, and I'd have to believe any other stories you're hearing are out of confusion.

Hey they could have put you in at 11.50 and let you work your way up to 14.50 in 10 years or more of raises. At least you still have a job.

I heard that if they don't think you, as a MGT, can make it as SFL due to your performance reviews, you will be demoted to a clerk.

Now if you're a clerk and you are pro rated by seniority, you would be making only $1 less per hour than SFL.

So who would take the SFL position for $1 more? I'd rather just be a clerk. A MGT now making $19/hr has a choice of $14.50 and do the same job or $13.50 and just stand there ringing.

I would guess that if any MGT are demoted to clerk, management would be in the position to make your life a living hell until you leave. I agree that the extra $1 an hour is not much of an incentive. Don't know if you could make $13.50 as a clerk anywhere else. Then again, if you are forced to cross-train in photo and pharmacy to take a new clerk position, it might not be a bad thing for the company. (Just playing devil's advocate here.)

Who wants to be a clerk though? I don't know about anyone else but I would so much more rather work the floor, warehouse, and cooler/freezer than be stuck on the register.
