Hello,
I'm not sure how common knowledge this is, but I'll just post the steps. I'm sure a ton of people view it from home, but if not, this is for you.

On the Walgreens employees at home page ( http://employee.walgreens.com ) when you log in you see a badge on bottom that says "blogging with mark wagner" When you click on it, however, it tries to redirect to a storenet page. Since you aren't (generally) a part of storenet (without vpn access) all you have to do is go on the search bar on the top right and type in "blogging with mark wagner" Click search, and open up the first link that's on the page.

Like I said this may be common knowledge so I'm sorry if I'm reposting it! I just don't think I should be wasting my time at work reading it.

Half the time you do this it "kicks it out" for whatever reason. It might be a problem with the user's browser

Last year during Christmas, we were specifically instructed not to mark down seasonal items that did not have corporate approval. So, we repacked them, paid carrying charges on them all year, and will be bringing them back out. Now, there have been markdowns on them already, before they even made it to the sales floor. I understand direction changes, but it is a huge waste of time and money. Payroll is tight, and we get instructions from corporate, like this direction, that waste payroll dollars.
Like the mandatory endstands, sidecart, and sidepanels that are in the guide for the coming holiday season, this is another unfortunate example of treating each store the same and not allowing store managers, who know their store's better than anyone, to run their stores. We have sold exactly one item off C10, C10a, and C10b combined, normally the highest location after the MIC, in the 10 days, since the Taylor Swift display went up. How much business have I already lost? Am I going to see that money in my operating statement later?
I came to this company 10 years ago, because I was told in my interview, that at Walgreens, you get to run it like you own it. We do very little running of our own stores and are micromanaged like we, as store managers, have no idea what we are doing. I fear this Christmas season, with it's mandatory endstands, is going to be a flop. Too bad, too.

People actually follow the mandatory endstands or even the marketing guide. In the past 2 years my store has probably only made 3. We put up the Taylor swift endstand but not on c10, it's in the middle aisle.

Wait until you get a CL Walk and they are in trouble for not having it in the correct location or any of the other mandatory endstands up.

Fire and brimstone, yo!

But seriously, Walgreens yo yos back and forth with mandatory endstands every couple years. This is one of the worse years as far as mandatory.

Yeah, give me a mandatory vitamin endstand that says like the top 6,200 vitamin selling stores are getting it. Give me a break! You might as well just said every store had to have it. Very few stores *need* a vitamin endstand. The low volume stores I've worked at that used to get the vitamin shippers forced out to them never sold jack off these endstands, so what is the point in making them practically a requirement for every store?

There's probably 16-20 endstands in the November guide that are required if you end up being one out of 5,000 ... 6,000 or whatever stupid number they came up with (and that includes already basic endstands like batteries, cough/cold, sun glasses, reader glasses etc).

There's like 34 endstands in a normal laid out store. Well Experience has even less. Add in what your MVP wants to require to be an endstand... and well you might as well just follow Marketing Guide to a T.

Don't bother thinking outside the box this year for Christmas.

Anyone else hoping Ology is on a super megasaver too since it's going to be taking up some prime real estate that normally you'd put your value brand toliet paper at?

We get a visit at least every other week and see our dm a lot as well. They both always say its a guide not a requirement. Guess we are just lucky.

Normally it's not a requirement, but the last few months they've started marking endstands/displays as Company Mandatory programs.

Yeah we still don't do those. Since our sales and profits are up and our store looks good we get good reviews. I really like our cl and dm.

I can see a bunch of buyers and category managers getting fired after this Christmas. If you don't put up the mandatory shitstands, they can just blame the stores for not following through. Let's not give them any reason to peg this one on us even though they will certainly try.

As a manager who doesn't follow marketing guides often...one thing I recommend is if you want to think outside the box, make sure that you know the numbers and have specific business reasons for what you're doing.

Or, tell believable lies. 2 out of 3 of My promo aisle jointed houses were destroyed when my floors were waxed. This is the truth.

Destroyed because they were left on the floor or destroyed because you removed them like you're supposed to?
