Former employee here. Does anyone that knows anything about Walgreens think that the company is in serious enough trouble financially to begin closing stores down or stop opening stores? Serious replies appreciated. Thank God I left in 08

Store openings have come to a crawl. This past month I believe they only opened 7 stores and I think some of those were due to acquisitions.

Well yeah, employees are gonna know more than anyone. I know they aren't gonna know as much as corporate but it's just a question

I honestly believe that they will settle and have some type of agreement in place soon with ESI, I just dont think they will allow this company to disnergrate, and I dont think they will allow stores to close, that will seem to much like a failure and this company has to much pride for that.

In St. Louis area they are just cutting some stores in each district to close at 9 PM instead of 10. One 24-hr store closes its pharmacy at 10 pm now while the store stays open 24-7. My area is over-saturated with stores so we may be an extreme example.

Pride Walgreens lol no. This company has none. Esi bought medco so if medco dosent renew the contract Walgreens will bring stores hours down to 9-5 every day for pharmacy probably I tech a day and just rxm and staff pharmacist. My 2 cents even though we would of broke even with esi we still would of made money. When a patients waits for scripts they go shopping. Hope wasson dosent get another pay increase, sales are down but he makes it up with hour cuts

Walgreens is making the decisions it has to make to survive the already terrible decision it made to not work a deal with ESI. Employees at the store level suffer for it. Walgreens will not die over this. It is definitely changing and the turnover rate will be at an all time high. Walgreens will still be around 50 years from now.
