This is 100% not happening.Pharmacist are not part of the new pay structure except for bonuses. They are paid by the "market rate" of where they work at.
The tiers are just for bonus purpose only. |

OK,I am 99.9% sure, nothing is 100%.My source is a DM and MVP(relative) who I actually trust.I think your source is getting bonuses and base pay mixed up.The bonus is what is getting changed for pharmacist.A staff pharmacist will NOT receive a bonus anymore unless they get a Exceeding Expectations or Outstanding on their Eval. The RXM bonus is based totally on what tier they are. |

. If rphs salary were based on the tiers your taking about . Wag would have a severe shortage. Every rph would quit and go work somewhere easier for more money. Rph salary is diffrent than all the rest |

New hires in my district are are being paid a few dollars per hour less. This is the first time I've seen this. It has been going on for 6+ months.
So it is true that RPHs do have different pay scales, not sure about tiers though. |

Before 1997 or so, there were 4 tiers or paycodes. in 1996 this was the pay (this is approximate numbers) RXM 72,000 88h/2 weeks RPh 67,000 >2 years of service 84hr/2 weeks RPh 65,000 <2 years of service 84hr/2 weeks RPh Over night same as above 74hr/ 2 Weeks When all the drugstores started on a building spree (which caused a RPH demand), and pharmacy schools going from BS to PharmD it caused the pay shoot up and the probationary 2 year pay was eliminated. Now with a surplus of pharmacists, the pay model will change again. |

Doubt it will change much. One of the few benefits of this job is that they pay more than most. People aren't going to put up with Walgreens Crap for the same pay as other jobs. |

We were also told that the new hires come in at a lower salary. What it was last year was that new grads were hired on and only guaranteed 64 hours per pay period. It's still at the same rate and if you work 80 hours it's no different. Once you get a staff position you're at the normal salary.

In my district I spoke to a new 2012 grad. She has 32 hours and her per hour rate is somewhat less than the hourly rate for a staff. She said she was told most likely 2013 grads will be paid even less than she is earning unless the building craze kicks in again soon. Our profession has produced more bodies now then we have white jackets for.

I see $40 an hour soon for a retail pharmacist. It's only gonna take one of the bigger chains to cut the pay and all the rest will follow suit. Enjoy being over paid, it's coming to an end soon.

RX isn't bringing the profit margins it once did and we're seeing the market saturated with new graduates. Salaries have already leveled off, it's only a matter of time before they start to drop.
Pharmacists will always make a great living but it's not like the late 90's anymore. |

I left Wag about 6 months ago to work for an independent in a college town... BEST MOVE I EVER MADE EVEN WITH THE HUGE PAYCUT. No more corporate bs to deal with, the clientele is top-notch, and I love going to work every day. I come on this site every couple of weeks just to remind myself why I made the move, and every time my decision is affirmed. I wish you all could find a job such as mine, but I realize that's not possible at this point in time. If only the SOPs (with their over-abundance of students) would start teaching some of the true business aspects of pharmacy instead of just glossing over the AWP -15% bs I was required to suffer through, we'd be able to tackle the giant corporations and sever their haunches... Please, take back the profession! See Jim Plagakis' site for some inspiration, and keep on keepin' on. Good luck to all of you!
