So I saw an email in our office that told store managers to mark your calendar for next summer, because that is when there will be another manager seminar in Las Vegas.
Seriously Walgreens? Our store just got another 14 hours cut from the budget, you took away our christmas gift card bonuses, don't supply us with uniforms anymore, got rid of a lot of positions...but you have the money to fund another manager seminar in vegas? Am I the only one who thinks that is ass backwards??

Vegas is 100% vendor funded, Walgreens is only out the cost of salaries being out of the stores and district offices

Vendor funded or not. It doesn't say much about the leadership of this compnay when they are cutting hours, eliminating positions, and taking more and more away from the folks who make this company money so lazy store managers and corporate bums can go spend some company paid time in Vegas. Very poor way to spend company funds. Just like the millions Wags spent on lobbying to pass health care reform only to read the fine prine and realize that the reimbursement rates and such will be decling and or changed. That means more hour cuts. Yea, go Walgreens leadership, go to Vegas and never come back.

I won't disagree with you that it is a poor decision that the las vegas seminar is back on for next year. I would
much rather be in my store than go, but the decision has been made. Not all store managers and corporate employees are lazy. I'm glad to hear that you are concerned with the direction of the company, I wish more employees like yourself did.

Listen you can say anything you want. Why would vendors flip the bill for Walgreens people to spend 14 hour days that start at 6am and end at 8pm talking about Walgreens shit. You cannot believe and of these peice of shit managers they are puppets. Just go in there stores in Sarasota they all look like shit, emply side pannels end stands all weekend long. This is the first I have ever heard about vendors paying for shit. The store managers treat them like crap all the time and they are going to flip the bill for hell at least a million dollars to spend a week in vegas we tie up 3 hotels the vendors feed 10,000 people a day oh and fly them there also. Lets look at the scale Ya I have some swamp land I want to sell you at a great price. Mr McLaughlin keep selling that smack to us . You remind me of obama health plan anyone.

Jerry,
Believe it or not it is true, vendors foot the bill almost 100% for the trip.

I also find it funny your comments about managers, yes their are some bad ones around but most do care and try their best.At least it has been that way in the 2 districts I have been in.

Anyone who paints all managers in such a broad light like you are is just showing ignorance and my experience is most who bitch like that usually ignore the real problem which they would see by looking in the mirror.

Also-end and side panels empty all weekend when the store manager is off-maybe the asst's should show show some initiative and fill them up.

I thought it was against Walgreens policy to accept any gifts from vendors.

I will give you some credit. There are some great managers out there . But when I go into a store off of Bee Ridge on Friday night and I see 2-3 empty side pannels and there store looking like it has not been faced in a year I do have a problem with that. The customers see that and that is burned into there minds forever. I am glad you have pride in Walgreens, you need to read all the posts on this site there is a problem with Walgreens and there promotion pactices. As for Vegas I will never believe that the vendors who pay for space on shelves( placement of where the products go up or down depend on the shelves$$)would then pay walgreens to send every store manager, plus the District staff, most of the buyers,vp's, lps's hell most of the corp staff that makes the Walgreens world turn to Vegas to feed them, shelter them , teach them for a week. My question to you if the vendors do do that Why? I do agree I did shed a bad light on most of the Managers for that I retract that, but you do have to agree there are a few bad apples and no one is doing nothing about it. I do thank you for your comments.

I agree Jerry, there are some horrible managers out there and that will never change when you have a company this big. Some just slip through the cracks and get by.I can give an example.I have a relative who works for Walgreens and their store manager is one if I had worked for,I would have been fired. He has a very high turnover rate since he runs the store with fear more then anything else. Why is he still a manager?I have no clue and wish they would be let go and someone would get promoted who deserves it.

As far as Vegas goes, you will just have to trust me on it?It is not 100% vendor funded but quite a bit is,I dont know why they do this.I am sure we return the favor in some way.I wish Vegas would never happen again,it is mostly a waste of time.It is ok the 1st or 2nd time but now when I go all I am doing is counting down the days to we leave.

I guess my take is,a lot is on the DM and how She/he runs the district.I have been lucky and only have had 1 bad DM and they were actually fired. My current one is great and actually cares about his people and tries to take care of them as best he can.

It sounds like you have a lot of pride also,I am not sure what your position is in the company but we could use more who care running stores.

Since we can't use any OT, how are we supposed to cover the stores with management? Our store is open 14 hours, we need 15 hours of coverage including opening and closing. How can we possibly cover 15 hours with 2 8 hour shifts? That leaves 1 hour for overlap. Since, by law, lunches cannot be forced to be taken before the employee has been at work for 3 hours or after 5 hours, that makes it pretty much impossible to comply with law doesn't it?

Hi Bill,
Manager breaks are one of those gray areas where some states do not have a set law about when they can and must be taken. In my state if you are essential personnel then the company does not have to make sure you have a clocked out break time, but on the other hand this does not extend past 8 hours and the company can also not say you canít eat while on the clock. In my store we donít have more than an hour overlap either and we usually eat on the run. Personally I like it that way; I am scheduled for my 8 hours only and not that extra 30 minutes that I cannot take. As far as the Vegas trip I am not agreeing with it either. If we are suffering through hour cuts and management cuts in all the stores then the company even funding a small part of a trip that is really not necessary is a slap in the face to me. If they can fund a trip then they can give that back to the people who are really the ones keeping this company successful, the regular employees. It seems to me that the higher you go the more credit you get for the success of the company, what would happen if there were no regular people left to actually run the stores? Does anyone really thing that the corporate personnel and stock holders could do it alone? NotÖ

I guess without trying to sound too sarcastic the answer would be the same way you cover it when someone is on vacation. What do you have for managers? Most stores have some combination of 2 asst's and a STL.

Breaks-There is no state law unless you are under 18 in Florida.About 1/3 of my staff never takes a break-Well lunch at least. This is their choice and it is perfectly legal.

What about replacing the ad tag design every 2 months and telling us to throw away all of our old ones? Sending stores TONS of overstock Sug. Sell only to see it go out of date in the stock room. And all the other j orders where it doesn't seem like it is based on store volume at all. Everybody gets the same amount.... We have about 40 or 50 cases of real soft toilet paper. We don't sell that much toilet paper.(The count isn't bad). There are a lot of little things that I think gets ignored that can add up to more than what these meetings do. I could care less if the met in France every year, if they could come up with better ways, other than cutting ours, to run the stores more efficiently.

this is great for exa's... every vegas trip a (or many) store managers get fired for picking up hoes, pissing in the corner of a casino, or skipping meetings to play in the casinos while still wearing their id badges...

The best thing is this Walgreens sells so much junk from China ad other places over seas that it is just a matter of time . China will own us. Go look and see where the snuggie is made. Hell the buyers all want us to buy that junk from overseas. Now that is the american way go Walgreens, the great american company.

Walgreens. Call yourself a Family store yet these Vegas trips have caused hundreds of divorces you shouldn't take your managers away from their families for a week. It puts a lot of strain on marriges. I'm going to start a patition to get this in to public.
