Have to cover for cos tomorrow. It's a real mess compared to other stores. I know we have a few Cos pros here on the forum, so any tips will be helpful.

The area above the perfume case has 4 displayers on it that only take up 2/3 of the space and it is all crowded together weirdly. New sunscreen mixed with a wrinkle something or other, and some cleansing stuff. All very different price points.

Some customers are upset that we have Valentines Day things up. The SM is trying to hold off on pushing VDay until we can not anymore due to customer complaints.

It looks pretty weird and empty now that all the Christmas stuff is gone. One of the BA's who is creative made some really great snowflakes to sneak in between displayers. She is working on hearts but can't put anything up now.

Some stores have tulips now. If we can get some up there to fill the void, that is what I want to do. I can get some from another store that got a ton of them I will before my shift.

I am a fish out of water in cos. They are testing me to see if I can cover all areas of the store. I think I am going to fail this area. Don't know enough about it, or what is expected. I'll just try my best to upsell. Not sure how the customers are going to like having me in there "advising" them on anything. Not the kind of guy that would know about it. Bought some magazines though. Looking at Allure now. Not helping much.

I know making flowers out of pens is fairly easy, you can do that to fill some of the space.

Other ideas: Can cut out some letters and tape them along the top of the perfume case. Just do something generic, "Your source for beauty needs" or what not, I do that a lot in my photo department. Also talking about photo, if you have any good pictures, you can print them at your lab (expense) and put them up in frames, just anything beauty related since you aren't supposed to promote any holiday right now.

I don't do cos, just some ideas.

lol your post made me laugh. Not at you or anything - my store is the same way as far as displays. I'm not our SBA but a BA who's "Full Time" in comparison to the others. Look at magazines def - and since you're a fish outta water, get to work early check the counter for newsletters and the Beauty website in Store Net. No one showed me a d*mn I learned it all on my own. My SBA knows nothing and my other girls treat me with respect and other leadership issues because she doesn't listen. Look at the cos wall too. Reset is gonna be done soon so nows a good chance to show what you're made of. I'm trained in all depts - I cover a lot for photo like yesterday - I miss the counter when I'm not there. Give it a feel. It doesn't come all at once! Good luck!

Tip #1-if you aren't artistic please don't try to 'create' decorative displays. One of our BA's loves to stick up junk that looks like a kindergartner made it, terrible looking and so unprofessional IMO.

Tip #2- Be very visible, really there aren't that many customers looking for beauty advice, most of them just want to know where things are and to get checked out quickly. Greet them, offer to help them find the product they want and let them know you would love to check them out at your cos register when they're ready. If you have coupons or samples at the register, that's an even better incentive to get them to check out with you. Our biggest cos problem is that there is hardly ever anyone near the cos register, tons of people walk past it on their way to the front to check out.

We are to have absolutely nothing on top our fragrance case per the DM, I cant even open displays and set them there while I'm trying to figure out how to feed them into the tables.

Same here. My CL hates it when anything is up there!

It was my understanding nothing was to be up there- but as always we ignore that.. so we have plants.. intermingle with smaller displayed items.

Our DM doesn't give a crap if things are on top of the fragrance case or not. But I definitely agree that it looks very tacky. 99% of the time there is plenty of space to merchandise other places in the dept anyway. (Well, if your SM knows how to control inventory properly.)

I would fill in the entire area with many tree branches at least 3 to 5 feet each, painted black with pink, red stripes, with yards of silver strands , metalic ribbon, hanging off the branches, hang tubes of mascara =Loreal packs that are gold/silver off of the branches.Order 120 feet of garnet organza fabric to swag across the entire cos wall area. attach smaller branches painteD the same but with small mirrors hanging to reflect light enhancing The enchanted forest of love theme for Valentines Day.Red velevet/hot pink flocked paper for cos display area. Once finished this would be a visual delight.Paper flowers are easy to make, oragami style, or paper pom pom's might be cute. why not String over 20 bags of silver hersheys kisses to use as garland for the cluster of trees /branches. Just a few tips for you.. I will miss sharing my love for true creativity ,adoration for all things beautiful, and the seasonal design of the cosmetics dept. I thought it was such a delight to see my plans come to fruition.Sure wish I would have been able to transfer rather than stay and let myself be picked on,to no other option but quit my job level.

To further enhance the the theme ,I think playing an ELLA FITZGERALD cd with such wonderful songs as OUR LOVE IS HERE TO STAY would be neat for valentines day. I believe huge old fashion picture frames spray painted w/ chrome paint with vintage snap shots of Walgreens Beauty Advisors,Cos COUNTERS, COFFEE SHOP RX and the like suspended from the ceilings, add strands of beads, would look amazing. If you have a drum Take over 15 dozen roses - needle plus thread create strands with a bat operated votive candles attached to the end, create Lumenaries made from rice paper, and glue rose petals to the edges. place bat op candle in them. Set up a perfume table with a white cloth, proper skirting, Use saftey block to create height, Place the 5 foot branches ,as your center piece, add real roses as the ornaments , strands of beads, candy hearts.I would also have set up a free plaster of paris table to let people make hand prints for thier kids, or what ever, Had them come back the next day to shop pick up the dried art projects. Request a small donation to a great cause. Just a few tips there.

Marge...have you considered going into floral design? I have a home based business doing silk designs. You seem to be such a creative person, I think you would do really enjoy it.

Wow, sounds like a mess. I would get rid of all the clutter. No one is attracted to clutter. Our store is completely transferred over to Valentine day in the promo aisle. We clearanced everything possible from xmas, and cosmetics is now neat and orderly, with no valentines day included. Valentines day is not a presale holiday. People will procrastinate in purchase of valentines day products. We have massive shippers in the 3 ft endstands, keeps it neat and clean. Go on the New Beauty Website under, I believe the sell tab in storenet, and get some idea's there. Otherwise, CNO....clean neat and orderly is and should be in affect. CLEAN IT UP
