I wonder how many Benicia Council members have done their homework and inquired inot the working and worth of the Valero Corp. Probably none. All they seem to be interested is in the paltry sums of guilt money handed to the City, and used as a political ploy by our not too esteemed mayor. We are letting this Multi national corporation pollute, and pervert our political processes. The same way we allowed large banks, and insurance companies to highjack our financial security. They want to deregulate, allow the rich to keep on not paying their fair share of taxes, allow pollution under the guise of "job creation" Wake up! Although Valero claims to be a Texas Company, their vested interest comes mostly from the Philippines. What do they care about what is going on here?

Portfolios owned and managed by Filippino investors. Look it up.
Beware of people who claim "Traditional Values". See the examples of these traditional values at work in the US Senate and Congress. Mostly hypocrits, people of loose morals, and pedophiles. You can live anyway you wish, but don't pretend to be something you're not....

Why do you care so much who owns a business? Unless your a investor, its none of your business. Your just po'ed because Obama can't get at the money to give it away.

He'll get a no vote from me... When short of facts, just hang a label on anyone: communist, socialist, liberal, gay, whatever.... Whoever has an investment in a business, and has a minimum of social conscience would want to make certain that there is no abuses, or Misuse of the power vested in management. Is the bottom line profit more important than the impact on the community. Does the DeBeers diamond cartel care what's going on in Namibia? Does Chevron care about the ruined lives and land of people in South America? Did the Canadian mining co. that erased a whole mountain in Silver City, NV. care about the ensuing erosion?

Its a refinery you idiot. They don't drill/strip mine/ oppress the workers, they refine oil thats sent to them through the pipeline system. Whats more, they contribute more to the community/United Way than any other business in the locale. The workers probably avg. 80-90,000/yr. Nice tax base huh? You don't like them wait till ya see what the next company brings cuz billion dollar refineries just don't go away. Also its a San Antonio Co. all the way. Its a dirty job but ya want to drive don't ya?
