Probably. Some say all stores will close by Jan. All of the marketing dept. was laid off on Mon., Oct. 20, 2008. No advance notice, no severance, no payment for accrued vacation time. Nice guys, aren't they?

I worked in the distribution warehouse. We were let go on Fri. Our badges were turned in. A lot of hugging and handshaking and tears. Management was told they were management no longer. No severance pay or no vacation/pto pay after Oct 23. Upper management (outside of warehouse) was hush hush about everything. Eventually all stores will be closed by end of Jan. Good luck to everyone.

Value City files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

NEW YORK, Oct 27 (Reuters)- Discount department store chain Value City Department Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, citing the slowing U.S. economy and tightened credit terms, according to court filings.

Sliding consumer spending and the tightening of credit terms by Value City's suppliers have hurt profitability and liquidity, the company said in its filing in the bankruptcy court of the Southern District of New York on Sunday.

The Columbus, Ohio-based retailer of apparel, accessories and home decor listed assets and liabilities of between $100 million and $500 million in its filing.

Shoe retailer DSW Inc (DSW.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) is the largest unsecured creditor, with about $4.5 million in claims, according to court documents. The claim is being disputed.

As of Oct. 15, the company employed some 4,500 people and operated 66 stores, according to court documents.(Reporting by Chelsea Emery; Editing by Steve Orlofsky)

My husband drives for them. They are getting all trailers back in Columbus this week and were told to have their trucks cleaned out by Oct. 31. They have not give us an official last day but we are guessing it will be sometime this week. Most of the office personnel were dismissed last Friday. The worst part is they will not tell us when the insurance ends or give us any quotes for COBRA. Again we are guessing the insurance ends Oct. 31 but it would be good to have some accurate information so there is no lapse in insurance.
