$65 million is a lot of money.
However, over 80% of it is from exercising stock options.
In other words, most of George David's pay is as a result of enriching UTC's owners.
That seems fair to me.

That seems fair to me. As if he did it all by himself. That is so bogus. How much was it him or could a dozen other guys at UTC done the same thing. I think the latter. There needs to be sanity here. A CEO should no earn more than 20 times the average salary or the employees. OK you think that is low. How about no more than 100 times the average salary of the employees. Unless the average salary is over $650,000, he needs to take a pay cut.

Right... as if making a personal reference to someone's charachter whom you don't know on a message baord doesn't need some amount of "backup"... BTW Mac - go check what other CEO's get paid at companies that are of comparable size to UTC - they make a LOT more than this... and - most of this $65M was because the guy sold stock - stock that HE helped make more valuable!

But no owner (shareholder) is going to complain about it as UTC's stock, in percentage terms, increased by about 4x the S&P 500 average in 2007. As for your suggestions about limiting pay, unless you want to the U.S. to transition to socialism, it will never happen.

Apparently I touched a nerve. So you have knowledge that he's stingy and hoards all his earnings? Can you cite your source please, as well as your source on my educational background? Thanks! Professors like when you cite sources too, so this will be a good exercise for you and will help with your schoolin'. Let me guess---sociology major?

I find it funny that in this forum we have those who will vehemently argue the rights of junkies and the virtues of legalizing heroin, yet rail to no end about those who make big bucks and are ultra-successful at the other end of the spectrum. Diversity makes the world go 'round...

enlightened one wrote: Average Joe, this is in response to your imbecilic comment. First of all, i find it awfully disturbing that some one who admitted he made about 28,500 dollars fiscally is calling other posters "lazy losers". I think you can see the irony in that statement. Now, you set up a false premise and try to defend it with a bunch of discourteous nonsense. I sympathize with the displaced IT worker who posted a little bit earlier.Read that and educate yourself on why people are distraught. I have to defend "Average Joe" on this one.... He may earn low wages, but unlike the others, HE is not looking to the federal government to put a gun to someone elses head to take THEIR hard earned money, just because he doesn't think they should make more than he does.

Why don't you purchase a few shares of UTC and THEN voice your conserns to the board. Apparently, the majority of the board felt that his compensation was fair. Buy your shares, and you can have your say!

Buy your shares, and you can have your say! Have you got any more fairy tales for us. The boards consist of managers from other concerns who obviously like extravagant salaries and perks. Most shares are voted by Wall Street investment banks and mutual funds who have a direct interest in keeping management happy. I cannot remember a single case of an overly generous stock option plan or platinum retirement packages being rejected and I have been a small investor for many years. Corporate governance regulations need rewriting but you won't get that from Congress as WallStreet now ranks as the leading sector in campaign contributions. Comments like yours help to screen the abject greed of corporate managers who have made themselves into a new aristocracy.
