Unions are killing both worker and companies Actually the new prevailing attitude of Please Mr CEO don't kick me to the curb is whats killing the worker. Take a look around you. wages stagnate, or going down, 401k instead of pension. health insurance going up. the constant threat of outsourcing to keep the masses (sheep) in line. But hey at least you have a job, right. As for whose killing companies, let me just throw a few names out there. YA know when I here that 1% of the americas richest pays 70% of the fedral taxes, I can't even get around how much money they pull in, while the masses make less and less. Staggering. I guess for the people that feel unions priced themselves out of a job and should be paid less, what they really should say is they want 1% of americas richest to pay 90% of fedral income taxes.

You owe your standard of living to brave Union members who fought for better working conditions, pay, security, etc. In a Capitalist society, the Unions have always had an uphill struggle. There are still plenty of sweat shops. Without unions, America will lose it's middle class, as a race to the bottom guts the incomes of all Americans. If you have to compete with a worker from China, you definately won't be living a good life. But the income of the wealthy continue to rise, while average americans face foreclosure and layoffs.

Don't forget Bernie Ebbers (WorldCom)Physical Education degree if I'm not mistaken. Couldn't believe it when I read it awhile back. But hey, we got lawyers and bean counters running airlines now. Whats the difference.

Mfg went either offshore or RTW.

As I have said before, we fought the Revolutionary War to benefit domestic industry, and the GOP maintained this policy until 1972 when Nixon changed things and sent Bush41 to China to start international trade. Today the GOP is the party of international trade and has forfeited domestic industry. No Empire can withstand poor policies such as these for long.

International trade is the basis for a double-digit percentage of US mfg jobs. Opening that channel was brilliant.

Mfg simply left Closed Shop states, with the exception mainly of mfg not in competition (things like Sikorsky-that do almost all business with gov't-not private sector!). For those competing, the unions priced themselves onto the unemployment line.

It is either made in Taiwan or China. It used to be made in Chicago. Yes I am sure the money changers have profited nicely, but how does that help anyone else? Your blaming of unions is just to simplistic.

Products should be made where they can made most economically. That isn't always the cheapest labor source. A 40' shipping container that costs $5k to get to LA 3 years ago, now costs $14k. If the US can produce the content in it within $14k of Asia, and we should be able to considering automation, we'd make it here. Stuff like light bulbs naturally go to Asia, they stack well in containers, are labor intensive, and not rocket science, so mfg knowledge isn't a factor. the reality is RTW mfg has held up better than closed shop mfg-why, UNIONS overpriced themselves. Consider; Transplants have added 115k auto mfg jobs in last 15 years.# in Closed Shop states; 0. # with UAW members: 0.

BTW, Philips stockholders also benefit when they make the light bulb in Taiwan, as they don't pay union extortion wages to get the product. In the 80s, several Bridgeport area mfg plants had production people (with not even a GED required),making, regularly, more than middle-level managers with Masters degrees. Several went RTW with production, several offshore. Geez, I wonder why?

Perhaps we could be the cheap labor place of the world, as we once were, if the US taxes did not have to support the Hegemony Military which has become the World's Police. Note during the glided age Britain was the Big Cop of the world and it drove them to bankruptcy. China will soon take their place and drive us from our Hegemony.

Only an idiot would buy from someone who couldn't produce the most economically. I have seen tons of well-paying facilities all over the nation that can be the world's low cost producer. They deserve, and they get, my business. Those that can't fill that bill have not earned it.

Korea is a parasite of a country that would be no better off than the Northern counterpart if not for US protectionism of their country and industry. The same with Taiwan.
