Ugly street in Bridgeport shedding image

Drivers down North Washington Avenue once passed a ramshackle grouping of hulking ruins that memorialized better days in this city. Full Story

Timpanelli said North Washington is shaping up as a nice stretch of road for Bridgeport, showcasing two successful businesses, both of which will be visible from Interstate 95.

Really? How many people look upstream a mile when driving near the dog track on I-95?

it would be smart for thoes of us that live in and near Fairfield to put our businesses in Bridgeport. The buildings and lots are available or can be updated and retrofitted to be office space. A good example would be the old GE site, rehab it and really you would have corporate park. Bridgeport has great access to I-95, RT 8, trains, buses and ferry service. My father had his law firm in Bridgeport for 30+ years. I have mine in Westport. Westport,Fairfield ect.. are SO congested with traffic and are becoming eyesore with all the office and strip mall building. I would LOVE to take the train to downtown and have my offices there. Anyone else agree?

I absolutely agree--taking the train to and from Bridgeport is an absolute breeze and much of the space available for renovation and occupation is a quick walk from the transit station.
In addition, the space is interesting. That is to say there is some wonderful existing architecture there just waiting for a designer's eye and the right tenants. I would much rather move my business there than move into a strip mall off route 1 at twice the cost and half the convenience.
Anyone who suffers from the misconception that crime is rampant in downtown Bridgeport hasn't spent any time there. the city is slowly beginning to blossom in spite of all of the negative critics bent on perpetuating the stereotypes of past decades. The truth is that Bridgeport is a great place to start a business or move an existing one--start taking cars off the roads and investing in the city. It will be beneficial for both Bridgeport and the communities around that surround it.

is mr. varnon at all familiar with the city of bpt?

north washington ave. is nowhere near i-95.

nice revitalization effort nonetheless, but perhaps people might be more impressed if they were told accurately where it really is.

this is eeriely akin to another reporter's recent placement of the new state emergency dispatch center on pequonnock st. near i-95 (!) when it is, i believe, on housatonic ave., near north ave.

fact-checking??? proofreading????

Anyway, if it wasn't on purpose, you'll fit right in. No one can read or write here either.
Come on down, and we'll collect the taxes on your business. We have plenty of cases for you to work; if your a criminal defense lawyer.

United Rentals is no bargain for Bridgeport. The Urban Land Institute warned us that warehouses and equipment storage depots -- such as the United Rentals depot at the Bridgeport Brass site -- are a waste of valuable industrial space in land-poor towns such as Bridgeport. These types of facilities use a lot of space, employ few people, and cost the city more in wear-and-tear of infrastructure/roads/services than they pay in taxes...

Only Timpanelli and DiNardo would tout such types of development for Bridgeport!
why would you
