To Harry Wassel.

The headline of this article incorrectly identifies the Any, Any, Any plan as a Medicare Supplement plan, which it is not.

In accuracies such as this only serve to further confuse the complexities of Medicare.

I get very frustrated by reporters who don't write accurately about these subjects! Any, Any, Any is a Medicare Advantage Plan -- NOT a Medicare Supplement Plan!

In the headline, Mr. Wessel refers to this plan as a Medicare supplement plan and it is clearly not.

Medicare supplement (or Medigap as it is often called), is private insurance designed to supplement the original Medicare program (pay many of the deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance amounts of original Medicare).

Medicare Advantage is Part C of Medicare. It is another way for a Medicare beneficiary to receive their Part A and Part B coverage under Medicare. It is administered by private insurers who receive their funding from the federal government (via CMS). These plans must offer "the same" coverage as Parts A and B of Medicare. Medicare beneficiaries continue to pay their Medicare premiums to the government and CMS uses that money to fund these private plans.

Consumers are already confused by the differences between Medicare; Medicare Advantage; and Medicare supplement - they don't need confusing headlines on news articles to make things worse!
