I think the problem is the parents allowing their kids with no restrictions. Kids have a lot of freedom, and distractions. Texting, sexting, Twitter, facebook, myspace, email, skipe. I had none of this in high school. I had several GOOD friends. Now kids have several hundred facebook friends. And people really think kids won't take advantage of this.

I say this is ridiculous how they always put the blame on something for kids bad behaviors first it was video games now it is texting,my child has a myspace and texts and know she is not bad nor do I feel she will become bad over this she is an athlete and honor roll student, you monitor what they do and good parenting that's what keeps them from trouble the kids who are off getting into trouble are the ones who lack parental control and usually have parents who are doing the same things.

LOL that is all I can say, give me a break. If a child is going to binge drink or have sex they are going to whether it was 20 years ago when we didn't text or now when we do text. This is a ridiculous accusation and waste of someones time and money to investigate, cracks me up!!

Have to agree with you back in "my day" (damn, am I really that old now...) it was blamed on dungeons & dragons, and rock -n- roll. Allegations of satan worship, backwards masking, etc. If these people really want to find a cause, they need to stop being lazy and picking the latest 'low hanging fruit' and do some actual in-depth research for a change. Unfortunately, the truth is much less exciting and attention grabbing than blaming texting, gaming, music, internet, etc.

This study is a crock. All texing 120+ times a day is going to lead to is sore thumbs and a high phone bill. This study is making texting sound like the next "gateway drug", seriously what a waist of time. Kids are going to have sex, drink, take drugs, fight regardless if they text or not. Kids just need better parenting to help prevent these behaviors.

The study's authors said that all that texting doesn't actually lead to the risky behaviors, but there is link between excessive messaging and acting in those ways.

You mean...gregarious people like to stay in touch with each other?

I started with Psychology as a major - but that changed quickly when I saw how the professors came to conclusions and relied so heavily on theories of behavior. I very quickly abandoned that dept for fear of becoming brainwashed, and got my butt over to Philosophy where 'thinking' outweighs adherence to a particular paradigm. All of a sudden, people became people, not objectified subjects, who are studied by 'experts'.

Pop psychology, fueled by the so-called science of it, has done more to ruin our American Culture than any other single influence. This little 'news article' is the sad truth that the science of psychology has to constantly reinvent itself in order to remain 'useful.'

All right, everybody, when I count to three, let's get healthy and INDIVIDUATE!!!!

Did you ever step inside an English class? Your writing is so bad, no one can understand your point - other than you believe you're a good parent who can't string three sensible words together.

I had no problem at all. Part of being educated is being able to adapt to different writing styles. Guess you missed that part of your education.

well i must say this is just another study because i used drugs and i don't ever send that many text a day at all even in my early adolescents i never sent that many the only time was when i had just gotten my cell phone for the first time, or the first time i got a gf too. also i think this may be skewed by fact that they took only drug using kids in this study cause i know plenty of kids that send way more text than that in one day and they don't use drugs and never had the way i see it this completely opposite as far as my high school journey went.

Ok so what if she cant spell or doesn't have the best grammar, that make you so much better and she is prolly a great parent.

by the way you suck a grammar

so next time do be so quick to judge and what she is saying make perfect sense.

have they run out of studies that actually NEED research done on? This is ludacris... What teenage kid isn't glued to their cell phones?? What a researcher can come up with just to get grant money....I don't buy a word of this study.
