GUN CONTROL WORKS! Ask the experts: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Castro, Lenin, Ahmadinejad, Omar Al-Bashir, Idi Amin and any other genocidal dictator.

It's big business...there are 15,000,000 million guns sold in the United States every year...there are more guns than people, but it's 44% of the people that own 85% of the guns.
Every year in the United States, nearly 10,000 people are killed by a gun. In England 40, in Germany 60, in Finland 17, in Canada 200.
Especially with handguns, the United States needs stricter gun laws and background checks. Severe penalties for use of a handgun in commission of a crime.
Handguns are 6 times more likely to be used as a threat than they are to be used in self defense.
If you want to own a handgun, which are designed to be concealed and used against people, we should know who you are, and if you use it in a threatening manor the courts should throw the book at you.
There, that should get all the gun loving, Sarah Palin backers riled up, shouldn't it?

I'm sorry, this is not an example of a fine neighborhood quickly going downhill. This is where asian gang members were taking baseball bats to innocent walkers not so long ago. I lived here as well in the 80's. Graduated from Johnson in "83". I used to walk around Phalen at night. My mom would have a hissy because it wasn't safe then. It's steadily gone down hill. My folks still live on the lake, but I rarely go over there. It's been going in the direction of poverty and corruption for quite some time. This isn't "new" news. It's like a disease, it hits a neighborhood, descimates it and moves even further out.:(
It's sad. I don't walk there anymore either.

I wish neighbors would stick together and demand action before a neighborhood goes totally bad. That's when it needs to start. When I lived there nobody wanted to call on the ONE house that had gone to hell. Pretty soon you have two bad houses, then three. Then people start moving out and the whole block is bad.

It seems that the city doesn't do anything about bad renters/owners/crime until the entire area is a dump, then they use our money to revitalize it. It's the same old cycle over and over.

What are stricter laws going to do? The folks committing gun crimes don't care about gun laws. Think about it, if you are willing to risk shooting and killing someone, do you think they really give a crap about gun laws? It is already illegal for a felon to own a firearm, yet lots still do. I agree about cracking down on gun CRIMES, but not gun laws.

the people that made a comment about gangs and welfare mom & kids, are the people that stay in the corner writing on post cause you have no life, no friends and have no heart! you probably don't even have a family so that is why you would put such a stupid remark on here. I know you would not go on tv talking all this dumb stuff cause I am sure you know you would be nexted, so stay in your corner & let the real people make the comments! This mom, child or family and friends did not ask for this, did not see it coming so why try to throw salt in their wounds!!! if you have nothing good to say don't say it and just go back and pray about somthing good to say!!! my prayers go out to his family!!

I was reading this along just fine, when I came to "nexted". There is a small possiblity they saw it coming. Not everyone is squeaky clean...unfortunately, that neighborhood is indicative of crime hot spot! BUT, I don't think anyone is so low as to not feel bad for the family!:( RIP young man!

With all due respect, it is just what you said. Walking down
a street at 3 in the morning, boom box blaring, and not a cop
in town will stop you. While that may not be violent, it is a
sign of zero respect for the neighbors, the neighborhood, and
other peoples rights. That mindset always starts out nonviolent,
but that mindset, once cemented in a neighborhood or society,
eventually goes further. And when police or other neighbors
don't stand up in the beginning, it is too late to stop what
always follows. A mindset of zero respect for others ALWAYS
ends up in violence eventually. Look back to the beginning
and you will understand the end. Your example and this example
is just a matter of degree, not mindset.
retard, i knew everybody who's houses i was walking by, and if they felt slighted in the least, i would have gladly turned it down, oh, and by the way, that was just a euphimism!

and the old east side was a nice place to grow up, as i did, back then everybody knew who everybody was, and we all knew each others mothers as well, which meant at any time we could be disciplined by these parents at any given time, within the realm of reason, and our parents would back them.

it was also a safer place to live as well, because we all knew each other and weren't trying to kill each other every other day!back then it was rare to hear about a murder, and definately not in this end of the neighborhood, maybe on rice street back then, but, thats about as close as it came.

wasn't there a comic book store right across the street at one time?

old east side forever, baby!
