The race track generates 300 million dollars in local revenue annually. Sure, Smith benefits greatly from the race track, but he spent hundreds of millions to get it to this point. That means local merchants who have invested heavily in Cabarrus County will suffer if the track moves because local home builders were allowed to build right on top of it and the property owners are crying foul. Then the City of Concord sees a cash cow and annexes the track. Now, they say Smith can't expand, because home owners near the track don't want the noise. The track was there LONG before the homes were. Seems to me the City of Concord wants it all...homes to increase the tax revenue, a race track which generates hundreds of millions, local businesses to expand, but they don't want any of it to make any noise. If the track moves, are the same home owners and detractors going to make up the losses of revenue and in the tax base? I think not. This is very short sighted thinking.

Your thinking is very narrow if you believe business owners and giant's like Smith don't have a responsibility to share the city with their neighbors. The LMS property is expansive. He can move the track to another location and make everyone happy. Why wouldn't he? The city has been very good to him. The city and the state contribute hundreds of employees and thousands of man hours to help coordinate safe events for race fans. I believe, as one person said, Mr. Smith has alterior motives and wants to build a new speedway somewhere else. This drag strip issue is just a smoke screen so people are on his side when he moves.
