The popular but dangerous toy Aqua Dots was recalled but the fliers advertising it apparently were not. Full Story

Wow, the Tribune finally acknowledges that stores besides Macy's exist, and this is what they print.

The logical next step would have been for the AP reporter to get up out of her chair, go to a local Toys R Us and a local Target to see if Aqua Dots are available for purchase. Why didn't she do that? Why is there this blind trust of big corporations in the news media? Why is there no healthy skepticism or fact checking or what the corporate PR reps say? Could it be that Toys R Us and Target are big advertisers?

I'm glad they didn't reprint the ads if they were printed prior to the recall. Save a tree. As long as they don't really have them for sale.

Actually several retailers had Aqua Dots featured in their Black Friday circulars. Not sure why the AP took an additional several days to discover this. Maybe they don't work on Thanksgiving.

Because huge corporations own the media, silly. That's why.

What a non-story. Stores have to do ad corrections all the time for whatever reasons (pricing mistakes, wrong product listed, recalls, etc.) because they're printed out weeks in advance.

Target printed a correction in the main section of the Trib on Thursday... And there were no AquaDots on the shelves at my local store when I shopped there this week.

A great resource guide for toys made in the USA is www.Toy-Merica.com .

Toy-Merica.com features a toy store powered by Amazon, articles, toy industry links and retailer links.

Couldn't they stamp over the pic and say not available? It just makes them look like idiots to do otherwise.

In the SF Bay Area, local newspapers ran a teeny tiny ad stating that due to the manufacturer's recall, the Aqua Dots advertised were no longer available.

Must have had some disappointed Black Friday shoppers.

The Target by Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg still had Aqua Dots for sale. I figured they found a new supplier, but it looks like somebody didn't get the recall notice.

Not the point, but just for the record, Aquadots looked so cool, but as with so many cheap project toys, they did not work at all. Spraying water is supposed to activate the "glue" to make them stick together, but alas I had to resort to a heat gun. Even then my son finally called his creation "one arm Larry." At least he didn't end up in the hospital. Maybe next we can get xanax crayons - the parents might really enjoy! Retailers of cheap crap from China can have their best year ever!

All I can say is, thank God they realized that the children who got sick from the Aqua-dots actaully got sick from this product. Could you imagine being a parent who does not do drugs and have the doctor or police tell you that your child was sick because maybe your baby got into your "Stash?" The repurcusions (aside from a horribly sick child) could have been astronimical.
