Fukushima nuclear plant may have suffered 'melt-through'
Molten nuclear fuel in three reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant is likely to have burned through pressure vessels, not just the cores, Japan has said in a report in which it also acknowledges it was unprepared for an accident of the severity of Fukushima.

Japan needs to monitor drinking water very carefully!
a dose of 50-100 milli-sieverts changes in blood chemistry occur!
above 500 milli-sieverts the patient will experience nausea, within hours!
above 700 milli-sieverts vomiting occurs
in excess of 750 milli-sieverts hair loss occurs, within 2-4 weeks
approx'900 sieverts and above permanent diarrhoea occurs containing some blood!
at 1,000milli-sieverts blue blood haemorrhage occurs
at 2,000-+ milli-sieverts red blood corpasules fracture and kidneysbleed and mal-function!
above 4,000: possible body breakdown within 3 months, if no treatment is given quickly! bi-carbonate soda is given in hospital!!
at 10,000 milli-sieverts destruction of intestinal lining, total internal bleeding and body breakdown within 1-2 weeks occurs!

You need to check some of your numbers again
dose as low as 25 Rem (250 millisieverts, mSv) can cause changes in blood.
Doses of 300 Rem (3000 mSv)or more can cause temporary hair loss.
The LD50/30 dose which is the dose at which 50% of the exposed group will die within 30 days of exposure with no medical treatment is about 450 Rem which is 4500 mSv.
Also an important factor to remember this is for an acute exposure. This is the dose is all received over a very short period of time on the order of minutes to several hours.

Despite this tragedy, I believe that nuclear energy is the way to go! It is fossil fuels that are ruining our world. Air pollutants kill at least two million people per year. What happened in Fukashima was not common and I believe a lot of people think that this accident should be the main reason why all nuclear plants should be torn down. Its absurd to me. The pollutants in our air come from our usage of coal and other fossil fuels. Nuclear energy may carry some risk, but the risks are greater when we burn coal, leading to a rise in global temperature and deadly pollutants entering our air.
