Marshall's? bah! There is already a Ross in town which is just about the same thing. We need the tax revenue so I can't complain too loudly but I sure wish a Target would have gone in!

Target would have been nice, but Marshalls is kind of cool! Hope it's not as much of a mess as the Ross in Capitola!

ANYTHING is better than Kohls. Who shops there? It seems that Marshalls can have varying level of stores. I hope this on is a higher rated store - I like the Marshalls I go to in other communities.

Cool...I'm hoping it's a Home Goods store which is part of the Marshall's chain.

""It is a sign of confidence that recovery is coming," said Bill Tysseling of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce. "It may also be an indicator of retail strategies that will lead the recovery: price-competitive, low margin with high rates of inventory turnover."

You just contradicted yourself, Bill. Marshall's cannibalizes the sales of more expensive stores like Macy's and even Kohl's. Yes, low-margin is the future; because it's all that people can afford. Big margin will die.

This is a sign of _no confidence_ in the economy.

On another note, gotta say that Kohl's _is_ disappointing.

The City will probably require Marshall's to provide free needles and panhandle space in front of the store. Just don't sign a long lease for the building.

Marshalls is nothing like Ross - the quality and value being much higher at Marshalls. The Sand City and Salinas stores have supplied many of our household furnishings; including All Clad and Le Creuset cookware, the handwoven, wool rug in our home office, and Wedgewood china for our table. A considerable portion of our wardrobes also came from Marshalls. Best of all? The new store will be just a few blocks from where I work, saving gas as well as keeping my tax dollars in Santa Cruz.

That's right! Marshall's is a lot more like Home Goods. believe they are affiliated.

Woohoo! Finally, can Santa Cruz catch up and get some retailers in this town that people want to shop at..... I am all for a Target going into the Old Gottschalks building as well. Then we can hope for an Old Navy, TJ Max, and Homegoods...

Wow, what a classist and snobby thing to say. Does it make you feel better to put-down these working-class people?

Yes! I love Marshall's and shop at the several different ones over the hill. Much better than Ross Mess for Less, but think I'll still have to hit Gilroy for the wonderful HomeGoods store there.
