There are ways to protest far more effectively than head-on confrontation.

Remember Gandhi's "National Day of Prayer and Fasting"? Not a "general strike", mind you.

I'm not suggesting a repetition of that. The numbers are wrong. The principle is design and action that does an end-run (to borrow and American football term) around the existing ordinances.

However, Russia is neither India nor the US - not sure these those tactic would work in such a place.

End-runs ALWAYS work.

In-your-face tactics only impress those who already agree with you. They also alienate potential moderate support. They also provide fodder for those who would gain by demonizing your movement.

End-runs sidestep these problems.
