There are 8 comments on the www.theatlantic.com story from Dec 7, 2012, titled Obama Won't Play That Way, Fiscal Cliff Edition. In it, www.theatlantic.com reports that:

Goodbye, conciliator. Hello, Mr. Tough Love.

Republicans are unwilling to compromise on allowing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy to expire, America is going to go over the fiscal cliff at the end of the year. Whether out of firm belief or firm belief in saying it as a negotiating strategy, President Obama has made it abundantly clear that this is one area where he will not budge.

"Administration officials ... hardened their insistence that Obama is willing to take the nation over the cliff rather than give in to Republicans and extend the tax cuts for upper-income earners," the Associated Press reported Monday.

Here is an easy solution, but these idiots continue the D and R game. This shows exactly home much of a show this truly is.

The defense budget is over $1T/yr. Are we on defense or offence? Answer is offence, so where is our declaration of war? Oh wait there is not one. We have over 700 bases in over 130 different countries. We have 2 major bases in Germany. Why? Are we still fighting the Germans?

How about the 35k we have in Korea, are we at war with North Korea? has there ever been a declaration of war against North Korea?

Why are we building a base of 50k troops in Australia?

Look at the cost of maintain these bases all over the world. want to save money. Stop with 22nd century imperalism.

Guess we will see who does their job. I know it is a pesky thing but the constitution gives the power of the purse to the congress not the president. They don't need to abdicate it to Obama, less he finish the country off with debt.

As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit. One method of preserving it is, to use it as sparingly as possible; avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace, but remembering also that timely disbursements to prepare for danger frequently prevent much greater disbursements to repel it; avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt, not only by shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertions in time of peace to discharge the debts, which unavoidable wars may have occasioned, not ungenerously throwing upon posterity the burthen, which we ourselves ought to bear.

Exactly! There are 207.6 million eligible voters, Obama got 65 million votes, definitely a mandate. A Presidential decree is in order to suspend the powers of congress for 4 years.
