Anyone else been targeted by Target Corp because of your age? In AZ, there seems to be a movement by Target to bring in younger, much less experienced ETL's to replace top notched, near perfect performing managers who happen to be near the 55 year mark. My brother-in-law is one such victim. Not one mark against his work record. Very loyal and good to his team members. Age discrimination is the only explanation.
I loved Target.....but I will not spend another dime in their stores. What they do to employees is without conscience. I know corporate greed. I work for one of those types of companies myself. It still shocks the system when it happends to someone you care about.
I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has suffered from age discrimination from Target Corp.

Absolutely true. I am currently looking for an attorney to take my case for me. I believe I have a strong one. If you or anyone out there knows of a class action suit on age discrimination against Target, I would appreciate knowing whom I might contact to join the suit.

Will do. Looking at several options. If you find anything useful, let me know as well. They have to be stopped. This is criminal.

I do believe they are trying to get you to quit by slashing your hours. Document everything that is going on in case you are fired one day. Any comments, any actions by your supervisors, managers, any comments. You have to remain proactive. They seem to start setting up their employees so if you don't quit because you aren't getting the hours, they will fire you. This is not just hourly employees. If you work for Target, get copies of everything that Target has in your file. You have the right to your work record. If they ask you to sign anything, make sure you understand it and do not sign if you do not know what it is or if it is a bogus action against you.
If anyone says anything, even casually, about race, age, disbilities of any kind....whether they say it is a joke...document it!
Hope of the best but prepare for the worse is the motto that ALL Target employees should live by. None of you are safe.

YES, I've seen it happen alot in the Phoenix Metro area. Any updates on this? I know of 7 people recently terminated and have been witness to the conversations taking place to get rid of them. All of them are over age 40 and being replaced by twenty something recent college graduates.

The situations that you speak of are not only happening in the Phoenix area, it appears to be across the board. Go to thebreakroom.org and it will put confirmation on it for you, and you will see many repeat actions that appear to be the objective of Spot these days. They seem to be on a mission to either performance everyone out on their own accord, or people are going out on their own taking LOA due to the physical and emotional abuse they are under. It's very disturbing.I would love to see action taken against them for not meeting performance expectations not to mention business ethics! Seems as though they are guilty of not maximizing relationships with their own peers.

here in las vegas you are told you will get an interview after initial paperwor then no call. They hire kids in school when those of us are unemployed and have families to feed get nothing. It will never change. You walk through a Target here and you see only employees that are half your age. If you are over 30 you are screwed to try and work for target

This concern has spread to NC-my husband has over 25 years management retail experience in addition to a four year college degree (now required @ Target)....now has some 25 year old female STL with NO hardlines or Logistics experience-performance coach him right out of his job. This is devastating-how can we stop this?

It's going to take a class action lawsuit. My brother -in-law was devasted as well. He visited one of his friends in Iowa and heard they did it to 5 of his past co-workers. But nothing will change unless the government gets involved...and they probably won't. Or a tremendous lawsuit. Good luck. Make sure you get all your documents ready if you go the lawsuit route....keep us posted.

My husband just came home early from work as a Target ETL to tell me that he has been forced to resign. He has worked for Target for 17 years as an assistant manager/etl and held every position in the store-guess what he is 52 this month. He now suffers from carpel tunnel syndrome and severe neck pain b/c of all his years of hard work. He was told he no longer fits the "Target Brand" its devastating. Very ironic that the young woman he trained and helped become an stl was the one who delivered the news. Until last fall he has always only received excellent and outstanding reviews. It seems they had it planned.

Target Corporation
1000 Nicolet Mall
Minneapolis, MN 55440

This communication is in reference to a potential class action lawsuit in the State of Arizona pertaining to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 which prohibits discrimination in employment against individuals age 40 and above.

My client(s) contend that the management of Target Corporation in Metro-Phoenix, State of Arizona is using his/her influence to persuade and condone subordinates to deliver subliminal messages regarding employee performance based solely upon age. My client(s) contend that Target Corporation is in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 which prohibits discrimination in employment against individuals age 40 and above.

My client(s) further state that they have evidence of Target Corporation managers, in Metro-Phoenix , State of Arizona, influencing, condoning, instigating and violating the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. While my client(s) understands that Arizona is a right to work State , the quantity of interested parties, both past and present employees, is cause for concern and further investigation.

The direction of my client(s) is that this communication be served in anonymity; however if the actions by the representatives of your corporation in the Metro-Phoenix, State of Arizona continue or in consequence to this communication, are retaliatory in nature, this is to notify you that a potential class action lawsuit is being investigated

Want to stop it? Call the HOTLINE, CALL your HRBP. Contact localreporters. Make noise.

If enough people respond, they can choose to make changes. Right now, corporate is dictating store level actions. But if enough people complain ... change will occurr. Be Professional. No name calling. State the facts such as date, time who was involved, where, when and how. The documentation you make and retain will be your ticket.

STOP SITTING BY THE SIDELINES and become a player.

yes, as a matter of fact, i feel like i was discriminated! i was hired to work in the pharmacy as a technician, everyone in there were young kids, including the pharmacy manager, she was only 26, rude and so immature. because i was like twenty five years her senior, i was treated like crap, like i didnt know anything, and let me tell you, i have been in pharmacy when they were in diapers. They were so rude and i had to kick myself in the ass everyday just to make myself go to work.. horriable, horriable experince.

I know how you all feel. I worked for Target for 9+ years. A group of us were asked to come to the district office to be informed that are jobs are being eliminated and that there were no positions for us, it would be dealt with throught atrition. 10 days after getting my monthly evaluation I got pulled in the office and told I wasn't meeting expectations. The next three months were a pure joke, but at the same time they brought in a class of 20+ recent college grads, funny! Everything they brought up against me for my corrective action was biased and incorrect, it was designed to make me look bad, and it was different each 30 day session, since I had corrected what they brought up from the time before. It was all a joke, I refused to sign the forms and kept asking them when my last day was.

I just turned 50 years old and have worked full time for target for 3 years as a pharmacy technician. I have a total of 9 years experience as a tech and at total of 17 years in the medical field working also as a nurses aide then an ekg technician. I have worked at target longer than any of my co-workers including the pharmacists working there now. Recently, a new technician was hired for the part time position (about 16 hrs each week). He is 22 with zero pharmacy or medical experience. I make a $1.00 more an hour than he does. In the 3 years I have been with target I have only missed 2 days for the flu (last year the swine took me down). I have been told by every pharmacist that come through there that I am one of the best techs they have ever worked with....if this is true then why am I only making 1.00 more than the new kid on the block? I requested a wage adjustment due to this which my pharmacist has pro actively tried to push through. It has been denied at all levels. Also, when the new kid started.. they gave him 3 new Target shirts. I have never gotten 1 shirt or any kind of perk in my time there. I'm thinking of filing a complaint. the more I look around me the more I feel less alone. All of our senior staff at our store are under 35.. most are in their early 20's. I notice the same when I visit other target stores....

Yes. This happened to my husband who was a 30+ year Target veteran. He was 53 -1/2 when this happened to him. It's been about 10 years now. Funny, they used the "You're not Target Brand" thing even back then. If they had let him stay even a few months longer, his pension would be more than double what it is now. They knew what they were doing. He made a golden contribution several years in a row (they may not use that term now). Shrink, gross margin, something else. In October, "exceeding expectations;" in December "give us your keys." One of the things they wrote him up for was that the Toys for Tots collection box in the break room at Christmas was not wrapped in Xmas paper. Also, one day after a 4" snow fall, they wrote him up because the mat at the front of the store was wet. It was called a "first impression mat." Seriously. Good news: There is life after Target!!! He works at a Forturne 50 company now and so do I. So disappointing, tho, and my heart goes out to each of you. I stand behind you, and I will NEVER spend one more dime at Target!!!!! Target Sucks.
