I've just taken a generic tablet of Protonix... and so far, I'm not getting any relief and my heartburn is raging. If this keeps up, I'm going back to the pharmacy for the Wyeth Protonix.

Same here. I have been taking the generic for a week now and I'm feeling God awful. I too am going to get the Wyeth Protonix from my pharmacy.

Protonix wasn't a good drug when it existed only as the brand.

No relief from generic protonix either, after taking the Wyeth brand with total success. Dr. had to switch me to aciphex cause insurance wouldn't cover brand Protonix now that there's a generic.

Do you know who was the manufacturer of the generic that you took? There is one that was approved by Wyeth called ESI lederle, so it might be better.

After having tried every other proton pump inhibitor at least twice, Protonix was the only one that woprked for me. If the generic is approved by the FDA as an equivalent, how can it not work? I am suspicious of the above posts.

I agree - it does not make sense does it? Both are supposedly pantoprazole, 40 mg tablets. But I have to agree with those posts. I had to switch over due to insurance, and have tried to start using the generics twice. Both times it left me sore-throated, heartburn, etc after about 4-5 days. I still have some Protonix left and those rescued me (for now). But I need to solve this soon, before my last real Protonix are depleted.

I almost ended up in emergency room with digestive pain and heartburn etc. Finally figured out that I had just started generic Protonix. Now I know what my problem was. Went to doctor today and got new prescription for brand. Be very careful with this generic.

Is the drug your taking associated with health risks? Has it been recalled but still sitting in your medicine chest? You could check your favorite news site for updates on these headlines, but you’ll have to do a lot of sifting, and if Britney’s in the news, you’ll never hear about it.
Now there’s a site where all these stories are sorted for your reading ease. You can track the downfall of all the big drugs, and it is never going to get side-tracked by celebrity gossip.
Read these stories and you can even embed the feeds from The Feed Store http://www.the-feed-store.com onto your site or blog.

I was so thrilled to come across this site and read that others were experiencing problems with the generic for Protonix. I just left my doctor's office, and after complaining to him, he tried to tell me there was any difference in the medications (brand or generic). I told him, all of my symptoms had returned. I felt Protonix was a God-send and I actually went an entire year without a single episode of reflux. There really is something different with the generic brand -- I feel like I now take a placebo.

I agree the generic sucks. My husband and I both started on the gereric and have suffered ever since. We are going back to the name brand.
