Officials hope Tesla will provide 'green' -- in cash and cars

Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

Vallejo is aggressively working to attract a "green tech" car manufacturing plant to Mare Island, though a different location may already be a foregone conclusion.

Tesla, solar panels and federal stimulus aid could create thousands of jobs and bring the industry back at Mare Island. I hope Mayor Davis is working towards the realization of this projects soon enough to attract the attention of the people in Washington.

"It will take about two years from the time Tesla secures funding to production of the Model S sedan, but with the new brownfield site negotiations already well underway, the first Model S is still expected to roll out of the factory sometime in 2011."....Rachel Konrad, Tesla spokesperson.
Negotiations "well underway" does not sound like MI to me. Sad.

"true on fire",

Maybe you should drop your personal bias occasionally, and you would find how wrong you are.

Again... the PSU camp can't be bothered with facts or analysis.

It is a relief to see an official remark made to a concern that has been discussed on this forum for some time now.

All the ranting and raving could have been avoided by the city making a timely statement to the fact that Tesla had been contacted with an offer to locate to Vallejo. Does the City of Vallejo NOT realize that its residents are desperate for any type of news of a possible future project which may bring employment? Where is our informations officer, who would be the one to let us, the residents of Vallejo, know what is being done to bring any prospective jobs, business, etc. to this city?
With Alameda and Atwater in the mix, Mare Island would have to really pour the coals to an offer. These other two locations have much to offer, Alameda with its open space and transportation facilities and Atwater's large buildings. Since the statement was made that Tesla is looking for a location close to its headquarters, I can only hope that we are given a chance to be considered.

VallejoGuy, they don't concern themselves with facts, analysis or anything else that would require and critical thinking. For them, it's about hating
Vallejo and anybody that may have a different view of how they would like their city to look or operate. They have become so complacent with BAU, change now scares them, because they may now have to actually THINK.

"Vallejo? Isn't that the city who spent millions convincing a judge they were bankrupt and completely out of money? Doesn't sound like they have a promising future for many years. how about Hamilton AFB in Marin county?"

the only thing i will tell you about change is that you will not be able to effect it to your "new" line of thinking. you will see many more years of what frustrates you. were you thinking when you thought you could change this bau thing? lol. it's on!!!

Vallejo could really use the jobs and tax revenue this place could generate. For once Vallejo has a chance to bring a legitimate cornerstone business to the community not another liquor store or kfc...lets hope vallejo really has a chance.

Scooter, the council did unanamously vote for bankruptcy didn't they? Change is coming. The city took years to get into it's present state, and it will take years to get it off the horse and buggy and into a Tesla. Stay tuned. People will not tolerate more taxes and fees when the basis will be BAU.

Since being decommissioned in 1974, Hamilton AFB was Army Air Field 1988 BRAC closed /Navy Housing vacated in 1996,etc. a Historic District was created in 1998 which includes the Hangars.
In addition with the 101 situation being a nightmare, even if possible would be a no go, IMO.

I think it is wrong to manufacture a car in a city where the average citizen cannot afford to buy that car.

Sound familar?
