I am sorry but the average middle class Georgian can not afford a $250.00 night at the hotel, most could not afford a $100.00 room. The resulting development would put the price of a cheap hamburger meal at more than $10.00, at that the cheapest way one poor middle class Georgian could feed a family of 4 for the day would take well over $100.00.
I am a RN of 30 years, and the nursing salary here is so depressed that I make $22.00 an hour. I have all the certifications for an ER RN.
Jekyll Island set aside for the middle class of Georgia??? Hell no, it has been set aside to turn it into a playground like St. Simons. It will benefit the wealthy, and the developer's most of all. A place the poor class can go for the day???? not likely.
"In 1947, Governor Melvin Thompson labeled Jekyll "a state park for the plain people of Georgia." Three years later the General Assembly ruled that the island remain "available to people of average income."
How many politicians have been paid off for this one?
