Safeway sucks, both Times and Foodland have better food, better prices, and better everything. who would want to buy stuff at safeway?

Foodland is the most expensive of the three mentioned. Times has the best produce but only carry the basics. The attraction of Safeway is that they carry way more stuff, some esoteric some not but with a broader range.

Holiday Mart is THE WORST.

Plus, Safeway has THE BEST SPICY AHI POKE of any supermarket...albeit at $13 a pound. FFS!

I AVOID SAFEWAY, VONS, PAVILLIONS LIKE THE PLAGUE. WHY DO YOU WANT TO GIVE MONEY TO MAINLAND COMPANY? I RATHER SHOP FOODLAND, AT LEAT THE SULLIVAN FAMILY GIVES BIG MONEY TO SO MANY HAWAII ORGANIZATIONS...SHOP LOCAL...THEY DO MORE FOR OUR SOCIETY IN HAWAII.
Simple that is all there is that are not overcharging. You should return so you can pay the high prices the others charge.

Some of the reasons that make Hawaii a great place to live are the same ones that make it expensive. And some the reasons that make the Mainland cheap are the same ones that it less desirable to some people. Cost of living often comes with the territory. If "cheap" is tops on your list of priorities, then the Mainland definitely makes sense.

yes, we all prefer mianland ways. I do think Hawaii is no paradise and is becoming less a paradise every day.

Pushing the buttons again? When does this social experiment end? Looking at it all from an objective standpoint, though, it's sorta interesting. Similar to viral marketing, etc. I don't see any way of monetizing it, though, unless you go on to create "alice" t-shirts, dolls (idea: probably voodoo type would sell well), etc.

You're incorrigble.

This would actually make a great horror movie. Innocent college student either is or creates forum character "alice." At first, it's fun. Then it gets out of hand. And one day, some psycho -- ironically responding to a ficitious "alice" post rather than a "real" one -- gets pushed beyond the limit. He stalks her at the UHM campus (part of a huge crowd of stalkers there, apparently). And then... eep!

Waddyathink? Hollywood here I come!

You'll miss this when it all ends.(He says, rather ominously.)

HI has high costs because you want and like them. Every time something comes along that will lower your costs you fight it. You are right HI will never be as cheap as the mainland but it could come close. People with ideas like yours make sure HI will keep high costs.
