Your welcome, John. No I did not know that is what it stands for. LOL.. Hey, This article says the truck came from Mexico.. I read where the U.S.A. trucks could not go into Mexico, so that information must be incorrect. Would you please educate me on how this works? It was a SWIFT owned truck..

I will find the data again Betsy. If I remember correctly there was over 200 trucking companies from Mexico that signed up yet only about 10 from US companies signed up for the cross border program. I have the data quoted in one of my emails to my Representatives and Senators.

Here are several links on the program. Congress has tried time and time again to kill this program. But the bitch at DOT, Mary Peters and her sleazy lawyers proceeded with the program arguing language in the law as passed.

swift is one of the main players who have signed in on the california port plan to haul containers replacing owner drivers. the teamsters union worked with the ports to get swift & knight transportation into the port to get rid of the owner/operators and break up the american truckin association gorup members who were holding out. the union has cut a deal with swift to organize the new drivers under a substandard contract

Thank you, John! This is from one of the links that you provided.

Cross-border program extended two years

http://fleetowner.com/management/cross_border...

The cross-border program has been SUPPORTED by a number of agricultural and business organizations, including:

American Trucking Assns

Caterpillar and

the National Association of Manufacturers,

which were among 69 organizations to sign a statement in March that claimed blocking the program would cause Mexico to retaliate against U.S. products entering Mexico
~~~~~~~~~~
It should be noted:(excerpt)
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) filed a lawsuit against the program the day after it was implemented, and said after yesterday’s ruling that the program does not comply with U.S. safety and security laws and regulations.
However, the Department of Safety did say that search warrants were issued for the Department of Safety's part-time drivers' license center, which is located at the Swift facility.
The Department of Safety said it has temporarily suspended issuing commercial drivers' licenses to truck drivers at the Memphis Swift Transportation location until the fbi investigation is complete.
Memphis is the hub for Swift Transportation and is open 24 hours a day. All night travel for Swift truckers across the country is monitored there.
According to the company's web site, Swift also owns a Mexican based carrier called Nuevo Laredo and offers crossing services at all major Mexican border check points.
The company also makes deliveries to every Canadian province.
In addition to the FBI investigation, a number of other agencies are working with the FBI, including immigration and customs.
He is 100% Right.
I know this for fact as that I am the one who
turned in Swift for giving out CDL Class A's to people who were under the influences of Anti-Psychotic Drugs and to other persons who were
not legally able to obtain a CDL in this Country because they were from Countries on our Governments Terrorist Watch List.
My statement was only a joke. A play on the letters of the company. I in no way am showing any disrespect to SWIFT drivers or any professional driver on the road. I dealt with the professional drivers my entire career in law enforcement. Rest assured 99.80% of the drivers were great drivers and I made several friends with them. In my last job I had certain drivers through the town every day. We constantly chatted to each other on the CB radio. I got many a DUI driver off the road from tips of these drivers. In one case I even had 2 drivers stop to make sure all was OK on a driver I stopped they notified me about. There were 3 folks that come piling out when I made the stop. This was a small town where I was the only one working and the nearest backup was 10 miles away. So I have the utmost respect for the professional truck driver on the roads of this country. The drivers from Mexico are a different story from what I have read.
Mary Peters will be leaving in January with her boss. Obama owes the Chicago Teamsters a favor for their support, and that is the first thing they want done, along with the vast majority of all Americans.
Thankfully this program has been ended as legislation to remove the funding of the program was included in the last budget package. Even though we did not get E-Verify extended for as long as we wanted, at least this POS program was done away with. However that being said I say due diligence must be taken. Since it is a know fact that "The One" is all for open borders to give the Democrats more voters he must be watched. There is no telling what program "The One", Queen Pelosi, Prince Harry, Dirty Dick Durbin, Big Head Ted Kennedy and all the open border folks will try to sneak in.
